After a busy week with developing a new route and clearing bush from existing trails, I started the week low on energy. I have no clue what’s going on, but decided to do nothing about it until the summer is over. Perhaps I would get some answers in my summer break, absent from work and home.
Svedehornet (404m), Grøthornet (298m), June 23 2020
Monday: I decided to drive to the Drageskaret trailhead on Gurskøya island for an easy walk along a good trail. Low on energy as I was, I had no further ambition than making up the first hill and take it from there.
My buddy Bjørn Skoge and the rest of the team from Gursken IL has done an amazing job on the trails in this region!
First, we stopped by Knottahornet. I was actually not sure if I had been there before. It’s hardly a hump, which explains why I could have been ignoring it.
The weather was still beautiful and we could enjoy the nice view towards Gursken fjord.
We continued over to Svedehornet – which the map calls Knottahornet. And the Svedehornet signpost is not even at the high point. Altogether very confusing, but the view was still nice.
I normally visit Veten when I hike from Drageskaret, but not today. Instead I chose to return to the trailhead via Grøthornet. A route I’ve hiked once before. I didn’t mind a revisit.

Rambjøra (132m), June 23 2020
Tuesday: My energy was still low and I settled for trail maintenance in my local forest.
It’s actually hard work – ripping the bush up with the roots and all, but my body feels much better once I get into manual labor.

Øyrahornet (417m), Slettheia (553m), June 24 2020
Wednesday: Today, I had more energy and decided to continue on developing the new route between Øyrahornet and Selsteinen. The only problem was the heat…
Almost on top of Øyrahornet, we stopped and enjoyed the “bench view“. Carrying the load of sticks would be much easier from here.
When I posted the below picture on Facebook, the subtitle was “It’s so hot that Karma tries to find shelter in the shade”
But progress was good and I had completed the route across “Rumpene“. Now I was starting on the hillside towards Slettheia.
Again, we descended into Øyradalen to make it a round trip hike.

Roppehornet (412m), June 25 2020
Thursday: I was in need for some other terrain than my local terrain and chose to hike Roppehornet near Flø. A top I hadn’t visited for some years. We started out from Gåsneset.
I was wondering if we would get fog on top. That would be a shame, because the coastal view is beautiful from up there.
But, the fog didn’t amount to much and was just nice to look at – from above.
Then I decided to try out a whole new route from the top. I noticed that a path was going to the north and then it turned northeast.
We followed it down the ridge, but the lost it. After off-trail hiking across the meadow, we found a tractor road that took us down to farms and cows. I didn’t want to hike among cows and made some “evasive maneuvers” – only to end up in a flock of sheep. To get away from the sheep, we had to jump a fence and scared the daylights out of a poor woman working on her tan on her terrace.
We followed the beach and the “Larsstien” trail along the main road, back to Gåsneset. It was really nice.

Rambjøra (132m), June 26 2020
Friday: I was now totally committed to leaving the Rambjøra trail in a good shape before going on my summer break. It was quite shocking how overgrown it had become.
It’s hard work and I might only cover 100 meters on an evening, but the result is quite good.
On top, Karma is rewarded for her patience – with treats.
Too bad really, to spend such a beautiful day on such a low hill, but it also feels nice to do something for the community.

Gåsneset, June 26 2020
Friday: Anne had come to Sunnmøre – bringing Turte – Karma’s sister. She would be looking after the dog while the owners went on a trip. It’s interesting with these grown sisters – there doesn’t seem to be a whole lotta love. It’s hello, run around in circles a couple of times, then – total separation.
In any case, given the nice weather, we decided to drive to Gåsneset for barbecue. This was based on my recommendation, as I had passed this beach the day before!
Later, Anne wanted to go for a beach walk. Some of us lacked the inspiration. I blamed a couple of beers. Not sure what Karma’s excuse was.
I get easily bored on beaches and miss my computer…
Rundebranden (294m), June 27 2020
Saturday: The first part of the day was dedicated to painting the house. The easy walls had been completed and the two big walls were up next. As I have some vertigo on a tall ladder on a questionable surface, I decided to get some of my climbing gear.
After a painting session, we went down to Skyttenesvågen to cool off.
The water was incredibly warm. I enjoyed myself big time!
In the evening, we drove to Runde island. Anne would be on duty as a Park Ranger, in the popular Lundeura – where the puffins come in.
On the way up, the Great Skuas caught the usual attention.
Fun birds. Brave as heck, nesting a few meters away from the public trail.
Anne went to Lundeura and I took Karma and Turte up to Rundebranden.
From the top, I could see that Lundeura was crowded – as expected.
Much better to have the top all to ourselves…
We did a round trip hike before returning home…

Sunday: I wanted to show Anne the new route I was developing, between Øyrahornet and Selsteinen. I tried not to think too much about the strenuous leg from Tjørvåg and up to Øyrahornet.
We stopped at the bench for the usual picture…
Today, I would fill the gap between Øyrahornet and where I started marking last week. Which meant I could get to work already at Øyrahornet.
It was nice to have the family around, presently extended to include Karma’s sister Turte.
After my work session ended, we continued up to Slettheia. The route between Øyrahornet and Slettheia had now been completed. But still I was only halfway to Selsteinen. This would however be the last session before my summer break.
On our way down, we stopped by Øyraelvi to cool down and satisfy thirst…
