A nice ski-trip to the Gurskøy island high point

Saturday: Plan A was to ski Storetua (592m) from Holtane. But when I got there, I concluded that the only track that was there would not carry Karma’s weight.
Plan B was to drive up to Leikongeidet and ski to Sollia. When I got there, I could see that the track was solid and so Karma would have a fairly easy day.
It was a big relief to not have to think about Karma struggling…
When we got to “Skaret”, we had a clear view towards Storetua, which I really wanted to go to.
Then followed another climb…
Next was a transport leg…
…until we got Sollia in view.
On our way up the last hill, I tried to remember if I had ever experienced this combination of weather, snow and no wind. I probably have but couldn’t remember.
And then we were up!
I had ambivalent feelings about having Randonnée equipment here. For sure, it would be great in the downhills, but there are also a couple of uphills on the way back. Oh well…
I had hoped Karma would be following the track when we headed down, but she ran straight after me. If she had a GPS on, you would see very nice turning tracks 😉
At the bottom of the hill, I put the skins back on and curved around the nameless 596,2m top. Then, the skins came off for good, even with one uphill left.
In the next downhill, it’s all about getting the speed so that the final uphill doesn’t really feel like one. I got good speed and Karma was just a red dot across the meadow.
Back at “Skaret”, Karma had found the wisdom to stay on the track while I enjoyed the off-piste snow.
