Lidafjellet (200m), Mar 3 2024
Monday: Trip #5 to Lidafjellet, and the final one. The first 3 trips were with the brush cutter, the 4th was with the rake and the lopper. Trip #5 was the “final cut”…
I was quite happy about finishing this route and present it in a good shape for hikers collecting Stikk-Ut goals.
It felt good to feel spring on its way, yet embrace for another good dump of snow that would surely be coming. The only upside with that would be to trick the ticks to come out from their diapause, only to kill them with the 3rd wave of winter…
In the meantime, we would enjoy the spring feeling…
Today, I also started on the completely overgrown Myrvågskogen route. I covered 0,4km before I decided to call it a day. 10 minutes per 100 meters…

Melshornet (809m), Mar 5 2024
Tuesday: It was a gorgeous afternoon, and I would NOT spend it on trail maintenance. I texted a colleague, asking if it was possible to ski Melshornet (Ørsta/Volda) from the car. He said it was, and so I drove to Volda.
Karma is always very happy heading out from Helgatun. Her enthusiasm drops a bit above the forest, but overall, she likes this mountain.
The snow was hard as rock today. I realized already from the beginning that the ski-descent would not be epic…
Still, it was beautiful to be out skiing on such a wonderful afternoon.
I think Karma also felt the good vibe of spring coming along…
And then we were up!
There were still cornices on the mountain, so any Ørsta pictures would have to be taken from a safe distance.
I had hoped that the snow was a bit softer where the sun was supposed to be heating up the snow, but it was still hard as rock.
The descent was not fun. I saw people who just ran straight down the mountain, which was good for them, not having to make turns. But skiing in somewhere between 40 and 80 km/h is a serious danger for anyone on this mountain.
Fortunately, I’ve not seen or heard of any major accidents on this mountain…

Lidafjellet (200m), Mar 6 2024
Wednesday: Another trip up Lidafjellet, but this time only to descend to Myrvågskogen and continue with the trail maintenance.
Looking at the new “motorway”, I felt big satisfaction…
We also made good progress in Myrvågskogen, but this route will require at least 4-5 more trips. But the end result will be mighty good!
Afterwards, we went back home, and I took the bike to pick up my car in Stemmedalen.

Rambjøra (132m), Mar 7 2024
Thursday: I was going to Sogndal in the afternoon, so I decided to give Karma a walk up and down Rambjøra in my lunch break.
Karma seemed a little confused doing this walk during working hours, but was very happy about being in her favourite forest…
If we had taken the same way down, we would have done it in 30 minutes, but I decided to do the usual round-trip and so the lunch break got a little longer than planned.
I had a good drive to Sogndal – ref. the top picture.

Amlaholten (508m), Mar 8 2024
Friday: After work, my legs were extremely heavy, and I had to plan the afternoon hike accordingly. I figured Amlaholten was a good plan.
When we got to Festingdalen, I figured that the regular round-trip would be too boring and so I just parked the car, and we headed out off-trail. Karma seemed extremely happy.
The motivation was of course to get new tracks on my GPS map.
After a good while, we found snow. Karma made the best of it.
Eventually, we reached the top.
The plan was now to seek out some of the OK viewpoints in this forest.
There are a couple, despite the trees blocking most of the views.
This time, we headed below the garbage dump area (I’m sure there is a more civil term for it) but the place smelled garbage.
After returning to our car, I only drove 50 meters before I came upon these two – giving a rat’s ass about anyone watching.
The drive home was nice, and I stopped several times for pictures.
Now, I looked forward to spending the weekend with Anne…

Høgehaug (546m), Mar 10 2024
Sunday: On our way home to Sogndal after the attempting Munkeggi, we stopped by Kleppa (Hermansverk) to do a short ski-trip up to Høgehaug. I *wanted* a top on this Sunday!
Anne was not so keen. I had to make a withdrawal from my “upside account”. I pretend I had one…
But once we got going, it got better…
At least we had lighter skis…
Eventually, it was time to get on the forest path to the top.
The snow was hard as rock, and I didn’t particularly look forward to ski down again. My mountain skis don’t turn well, and I’m not a good enough skier to make them turn.
It’s a type of skis which is perfect if you’re doing both tracks and off-trail. They fit the tracks and they’re slightly wider than normal cross-country skis. But they suck in the tracks and they suck outside the tracks.
After a short ski-trip, we reached the top.
I was taking pictures, but Karma demanded treats.
I tried to get Anne to call on Karma, but both of my girls were against me today…
This is not the finest viewpoint either, but at least I got a glimpse of the fjord…
