Happy about the snow, yes?

Our route across Årheimsfjellet

Monday: After work, I left Sogndal and sat course for my home on Gurskøya – a 3,5-hour drive. Clearly, I had to find a place to walk the dog and preferably – a top that we hadn’t done so far in 2024. Getting a brand-new top would not fit my time schedule and so my choice fell on Årheimsfjellet in Stryn.

Årheimsfjellet

I drove up to the Oppheim and paid the stiff NOK 85, – price for parking.  I would have paid 50, – without thinking, but 85 is just too much. But OK, we could start hiking from ~300m elevation.

Heading out from Oppheim

It was a really hot day and Karma wasn’t super-enthusiastic. Fortunately, there was plenty of access to water along the way.

Load up!

When we reached Oppheimssætra, we were also done with the forest.

Oppheimssætra

From here, we could follow a really nice path up to the high ridge.

Excellent path!

The top was now just a 2km hike away…

The top is in view!

The snowfields were a bonus. Karma could properly cool off!

Happy dog!

It was nice to be completely alone on this mountain!

Approaching Årheimsfjellet

And then we were up!

On top of Årheimsfjellet

I didn’t bother descending for the Stryn views. The plan was to hike Gryta (on the other side of the valley) at some point and I would get my Stryn views then.

Skåla

I didn’t need the Stryn view. The views were good enough as they were…

Like always, when I hike this top, I descend via Raksætra. Today was no exception and so we went off-trail, assuming we would find the Raksætra trail in not too long.

Descending Oppheimssætra

We did, and in not too long we were down at Raksætra.

Arriving at Raksætra

Raksætra is a popular hiking goal, and we met a few hikers as we continued down to the trailhead.

We still had good access to water, but now – Karma was good…

Returning to Oppheim

It was a great hike. I wasn’t home until 10pm in the evening, but clearly worth it!
