Our hike across Storefjelltinden

Sunday: I wanted to show Anne the nice tops surrounding lake Kvanndalsvatnet in Norddalen, above Syvden. We had previously been to Blæjeskardtinden together, but that hike was from Dansen – on the south side.

Today, we would be hiking Storefjelltinden. I visited this peak with buddy Åsmund back in 2009, and we hiked from Dalsfjorden then. Today, we would be hiking from lake Kvanndalsvatnet.

Ready for departure

The weather wasn’t great, but it was supposed to improve. But we both realized that we were a bit early

ALong the lake on a vague path

We had an easy hike along lake Kvanndalsvatnet and could see our goal – Storefjelltinden – on the far side of the lake.

Our goal – Storefjelltinden

And little by little, the fog lifted!

Approaching Buestøylen, with Storefjelltinden in the background

Storefjelltinden was now free of fog and we both looked forward to getting up!

Aiming for the ridge

We didn’t see any path, but the terrain was overall easy.

Easy terrain, but *wet*

When we got on the ridge between Storefjelltinden and Blæjeskardtinden, we found a visible path.

On the ridge

While it might have looked a bit cumbersome from a distance, the ascent was easy.

The ridge route wasn’t difficult

The Dalsfjorden view wasn’t bad!

A tiny piece of fog was still hitting on the mountain, but it went away when we got there.

Fog – go away!

We had a good time!

Happy to be here!

This was the second time this week I was above a rainbow!

Cool!

And then we were up!

Karma and Anne – on top of Storefjelltinden for the first time

We hadn’t discussed the descent route, as if it had been obvious that we would follow the same route back.

But what about descending the NE ridge? It had to be doable, as that was the route Åsmund and I came up in 2009. And then we could follow the trail down the forest below Tenna that I did earlier this year?

Looking for descent options…

Anne was definitely up for this!

Descending Storefjelltinden

While it looked a bit steep, the terrain was easy enough.

It was just a *little bit* steep

I was so happy about this decision. The hike would feel twice as good afterwards!

On our way down to Keipedalen

A bit later, we followed the same forest path down to lake Sætrevatnet that I did on May 5th.

It was a good thing I knew about this path!

Down by the lake, I suggested – being a gentleman and all – that Anne and Karma could wait down there while I went back up to get the car.

At lake Sætrevatnet

It was only 1,6km and 150 vertical meters to the car.

My car – up in the pass in the center

I sat course for the Haugen cabins (along a path) and went off-trail from there, until I joined the road higher up.

A fantastic hike!

Returning to lake Kvanndalsvatnet
