Trongsmoget, July 5 2014
After leaving Knaplundsøya island, our next goal was Per Karlsatinden – a peak in the Børvasstindan mountain range. But the hike would happen the next day and so we needed a place to camp for the night. We found a nice place near Trongsmoget, just west of the Per Karlastinden trailhead.
The Bodø mountains were calling in the distance, but they would just have to wait for another summer. After Per Karlsatinden, we would set course for my mom’s place in Brønnøysund.
The smaller island tops had been “bonus tops” (after hiking higher tops) for the past days, but the Feøya high point was out of reach for us now. We could probably find someone to take us across the sound, but we just didn’t have time.
Per Karlsatinden (1036m), July 6 2014
It was yet another fine morning and we were ready for Per Karlsatinden! The trailhead was easy to find and there was a parking place.
We were not alone here. Others headed out at the same time as us. I felt strongly for leaving them behind us. Anne knows me well enough. She adjusted to my pace without complaining…
Karma was constantly thirsty, but fortunately – there was water along the route.
Visiting Børvasstindan was for me a dream come true. It’s a mountain range I’ve heard about all my life and today we would finally visit one of these tops!
I found the hike quite easy. The hike to the top wasn’t too long and the angle wasn’t too steep.
To the southwest, we had a good view towards Sandhornet – which we visited the day before.
On our way up the last hill, we could feel the wind was getting stronger and stronger.
When we reached the top, the wind was quite furious. I’m not sure if it was gale force, but when I’m not able to have control on all my moves, I call it a gale…
I made myself a solid promise to come back here for more tops…
A traverse across these tops looks mighty fun!
The Bodø view from up here was quite good, too!
Little did we know, back in 2014, that the small town of Bodø would have the dominating football team in Norway, 5 years later…
It took us 1,5 hours to reach the top. It was intolerable to stay on top so we quickly turned around.
As we headed down the mountain, we passed many hikers going up. We counted 40 other hikers, in addition to ourselves.
We returned to the car 12:50 – 3,5 hours after leaving it. A great hike!
Varden / Rangsetnakken (255m), July 6 2014
After hiking Per Karlsatinden, we went to Straumøya island, where I wanted to hike the high point and Anne and Karma wanted to enjoy life down by the fjord.
I started out near Hella, at the end of the paved road – 1,3km southwest of the high point. I continued on a rough road until it ended.
Then I turned right and crossed a bridge.
A bit later, I followed a path in the eastbound direction and stayed left in a fork.
I was slightly concerned if I was still on the right track, but stayed faithful to the directions I had been given from a woman I spoke with earlier in the day.
The woman told me that on my northeast course, I should be looking out for rhododendron. And boy, I was happy when I found them…
From here, I found a path that led me up a ridge. I understood that this ridge would lead me all the way to the top.
And – what a nice ridge!
Eventually, I reached the top.
After Sandhornet and Per Karlsatinden, the views were already familiar to me, but I still enjoyed it a lot!
Now it was time to get off the mountain, join the others and leave the Salten region for now.
I’ll be back. I hope…
