Wednesday: Finally, I took the time to go hiking somewhere else than on the coastal islands. Well, technically Lidaveten might be considered a coastal top but at least it’s on the mainland.
We took the usual route from Berkneset. I was wondering if Karma had a good day or if she would just sit down by the car and stare at me. Luckily, she wandered off with a wagging tail. Always a good sign!
Me, on the other hand – there were no good signs to find. I felt really tired. As dumb as it sounds, I realized that I would only get to the top by putting one foot in front of the other.
That’s how it’s done, of course. But hopefully you know what I mean.
I was a bit curious about the steep hill leading up to “Tua”. Would it be icy?
Yes, it was. But we were able to get up, safe and sound.
The hardest part was over. Now, we only had ~150 vertical meters to go.
The snow was not a problem at all, rapidly melting away in the sunshine.
I was happy when we reached the top. No more uphill!
Karma knows the drill. Pictures first, then treats.
I am desperate to go skiing again, but I just don’t have the time in the afternoon. I’ll go down to Sogndal for the weekend. Maybe I get a chance then.
It was nice to “lick” sunshine again. And the wind wasn’t too bad.
We took the route down to Eikreim. The route has some steep sections and they’re more cumbersome for Karma now that the rain has washed away the ground. Now there is basically just rocks and roots left in the steepest parts.
It was fascinating to see the dog navigate the steep sections using small outcrops and ledges. It’s in her DNA by now.
Eventually, we reached the tractor road.
I decided to stop by the “Gapahuk” (lean-to shelter) on our way back to Berkneset.
At the “Gapahuk”, we met a couple of moms and their young children. One of the families had just gotten a Lagotto and enjoyed seeing Karma. Her young child (no higher than Karma) was a little shy but found the courage to give Karma treats.
Time to call it a day. Good hike!
Trip statistics: 7,1km, 635 vertical meters, 2h:09m
