Continued from Poland trip, day 7

Gdańsk- Ålesund, Sep 27 2025

Anne got to see her beloved Jostedalsbreen glacier.

Saturday: This was a great travel day! We got up at 6:30am at the airport hotel, had breakfast at 7am and checked out of the Hilton hotel 8am. The walk over to the airport took 5 minutes and I was really happy about choosing an airport hotel – although there was nothing fancy about the hotel, other than the price – twice of the other hotels we had stayed at. I’ll admit that a large stain on the quilt got me in a negative mindset.

We had to wait 30 minutes before the check-in opened, but from there on, everything went smoothly. We departed on time, 10:20am.

We got separate seats. We didn’t want to pay more money to Wizz Air just to be seated together. I dislike the combination of flying and shopping carts…

I got a middle seat, next to a guy not smelling too good. I could feel a slight touch of panic and looked for the nearest puke bag. There was one in the seat next to me. Panic under slight control. I was overjoyed when I found that the plane wasn’t full and I could move over to the aisle seat.

Anne was 15 rows behind me, with a windows seat. She took a lot of pictures, as we entered the western part of Norway.

Then followed a smooth landing and after we had finished our tax-free shopping, our bags were the only bags left on the conveyor belt.

Some minutes later, we were in my car, leaving the airport.

Saturday: On our way from Vigra airport, Anne said she would like to go to Blimsanden and go swim in the sea. Of course, she could…

Blimsanden

I can sort of understand the fascination. Going swimming – no matter where or how cold it is – you have to challenge yourself. I do understand the reward afterwards.

The first thing Anne did after landing in Norway

I could have joined her, but I didn’t want to. It looked cold. If properly challenged, I would have, but Anne hasn’t found the right way to challenge me. With my daily hikes in all sorts of weather, I already feel bold enough.

Take your time…

This is her thing. I will support it as much as I can …

Is that a smile or a grin on your face?

… as long as I stay warm and dry.

Storhornet (497m), Sloktinden (442m), Sep 27 2025

Our hike across Storhornet and Sloktinden

Saturday: It was a gorgeous day, and after Blimsanden, I suggested to Anne that we should hike Storhornet on Godøya. She was up for that. I chose a round-trip hike from the school.

Heading out

I proposed that we should ascend via the Gjuv trail. Which meant that we would have to follow forest trails for 2,9km first.

Finally, we could embark on the path to Storhornet.

Onto the mountain path

I like this trail. I don’t know how many times I’ve hiked it, but it’s many.

Nice zig-zags up the forest

There were lots of hikers on the trail today. No wonder. This is a go-to place on a sunny day.

The ridge to Storhornet

This would be my 28th visit to the top. Which means I’ve had at least 28 great hikes in my life. There have been more, course. But at least 28!

On the ridge to Storhornet

For some reason, Anne didn’t remember anything from this route. She easily forgets routes, which is a good thing. That means that every re-visit feels like a brand-new hike for her.

Looking back on Alnesvatnet and Lesten

The route is getting steeper

The thing about Godøya island – I’ve never had a dull hike here. I just love this island!

Lake Alnesvatnet

Then we came to the part that’s a little bit steep. I found a good route for Karma years ago, and it seemed that our route was the normal route now.

The steepest part

After the steep part, we just had a short pitch up to the top.

Almost up

The views were nice as always!

There were several hikers on top. I talked to some girls who had come up from the Alnes side and felt a touch of vertigo. I felt sorry for them. There’s no reason to feel vertigo on this mountain, so they must have had a bad case of it.

So far – a wonderful day!

Then we continued towards Sloktinden.

Moving on

The good thing about taking the Gjuv route up, was that now we would be heading directly down to the car.

Approaching Sloktinden

It was nice to reach Sloktinden. Only downhill from here. Which was good, since we hadn’t eaten since breakfast in Gdańsk at 7am. The time was now 3:15pm.

On Sloktinden

On my way down, I reflected on the past week. We had only been gone for a week, but it felt like 2 weeks – at least. We had driven Poland north – south twice, hiked 10 P100 tops and it was a content-rich journey for sure.

Shadows

Now, I started looking forward to getting back home.

Looking over to the Vigra airport, where we landed a few hours earlier

We caught the 5pm ferry from Sulesund and got back to my place 6:10pm. We decided to celebrate the vacation with Rakfisk and Aquavite.
