My hike across Skafjellet

Friday: After work, the plan was to hike to Storebroren (620m) on Hareidlandet island. I started out from “Rise Boulevard” in Hareidsdalen.

My trailhead

Next up was a 1,1km boring walk along a tractor road.

Finally, I got the mountains in view. I was following tracks in the beginning, but then I got astray from the track and found myself in cumbersome terrain.

The hike to Storebroren is “long” when you stick to paths. In strenuous, off-trail terrain, the hike gets extra long.

So, when I found an icy creek, I was happy. Easier terrain! But only for a couple of minutes. The ice broke and my feet got soaking wet.

Dang!

Storebroren now felt out of reach. My feet would surely get colder and colder. And – was there a snowstorm up there now?

Hey, that’s where Storebroren is…

I decided to settle for Skafjellet instead. The sunset was stunning and I just had to hike with the camera in my hand. I didn’t want to miss a single moment.

Watching the sunset closely

I couldn’t take my eyes off the snow shower either…

That’s a biggie!

Eventually, the top of Skafjellet came into view.

The last rays of sunshine painted the Sunnmøre alps golden.

It was a sight for sore eyes…

The sun was about to go down in the horizon. I tried to capture every second of it.

That is SO beautiful!

I don’t know what I enjoyed the most – the sunset or the snow shower

Is it coming this way?

On top, I just had to sit down and enjoy this beautiful sight…

Oh my goshness…

It’s not even mid-February, but I could already fill up a coffee table photo album of sunset pictures in 2026!

I hung around on top until the sun disappeared. The glow was just out of this world. That’s partly true also…

I descended to Bigset and along the way, I found a forest path that I didn’t know about. Bonus!

Down by the main road in Hareidsdalen, my car was 1km away. I was not in a hurry anyway, listening to recently downloaded new music
