Haddalshornet, May 6 2026

Back in the snow…

I wanted to capture the snowball right in front of the lens, but that requires a whole lot of practice…

My hike-and-bike route and piano-style tiles from Google…

Wednesday: The weather looked stabile, although the forecast was of a different opinion. I decided to take the chance and hike across Haddalshornet, from Haddal to Havåg and return to Havåg on my bike.

Haddalshornet

If I ran into bad weather, I could always return to Havåg and pick up the bike on my way home.

My trailhead – between Havåg and Eiksund

It was a beautiful afternoon with spring written all over it. But that was just a temporary feeling. I knew I was heading up to snow.

Going up this forest…

It was a confusing but also a nice thought. Two seasons in one relatively short hike…

I like this forest…

There was a moment where I didn’t think there would be snow on this side of the mountain.

Still very spring-ish

But eventually, there it was…

Hello snow!

Goodbye, spring. For now…

Eika island

There wasn’t a whole lot of snow, but enough. And it was a bit tedious to walk in. I got soaking wet pretty fast.

But I was on my way to the top now, and I truly enjoyed the day and the hike.

The weather still seemed to be on my side

And then I was up…

On top of Haddalshornet

…and made the decision to descend to Haddal.

Going down this way

There wasn’t much to report from the descent. It was really nice to leave the snow behind and return to spring

Back in the green…

At Haddal, I met a retired colleague, and we talked about garden stuff. I pretended I had a clue after spending a week with building beds and walkways in Anne’s garden.

Then I returned to Havåg on my bike. I didn’t know that they had built a road that connected the new gravel road from Haddal and the road around Aursnes. Very nice!

I didn’t know about this section, connecting two gravel roads

Trip statistics: 7,5km on bike, 5,4km on foot, 720 vertical meters, 2h:27m
