My route up and down Mosaksla

Tuesday: Working from Brønnøysund this week. Hard to focus with an inflamed tooth. I was lucky and got an appointment with a local dentist. He said the tooth has to go or initiate a second molar root canal. The tooth has costed me enough money already. He set me up for an appointment the next day. Meanwhile, I just had to pop pain killers.

After work, I got started on cutting trees in mom’s garden. Then followed chopping and stacking.

After dinner, I decided to go for a hike up Mosaksla, “in need” for my daily 500 vertical meters. There was fog on the mountain, but I didn’t care.

Mosaksla aka Mofjellet

The rocky route up the mountain was very slippery after rain. That was OK though, as long as it didn’t start raining again.

Exciting terrain

It was quite windy too. I stopped and put my wind jacket on, and the hike got much more pleasant.

I enjoy the route up Mosaksla

From the halfway point, I took a route that I’ve never done before. There was actually a vague path there.

Interesting weather…

I was wondering if the fog would lift by the time I reached the top. That would be a big bonus!

Feeling slightly optimistic

But no such luck. I just took this picture and headed back down.

The Mosaksla summit cairn

I like this mountain a lot and it was nice to be back. I particularly like all the steep and scary routes this mountain has to offer.

On my way down. The path is quite visible

Tilremshatten (318m), May 28 2026

My route across Tilremshatten

Thursday: After removing a molar (tooth) the day before, I was totally depending on pain killers to get through my working day. After work, I decided to hike Tilremshatten. I wasn’t bleeding anymore so I figured it was safe enough.

I drove to Tilrem, left my bike there and drove to Mosheim, where I parked.

The long ridge to Tilremshatten

It went OK in the beginning. My then I started to feel weird. My body doesn’t really like the mix of Ibuprofen and Paracetamol and add Antibiotics to that mix, you have a proper cocktail. But it took the edge of the pain away and so it was tolerable.

On my way to Tilremshatten

It was yet another “one foot in front of the other” hike but I made steady progress up the forest. I could feel small raindrops every now and then, but it never really rained.

The Havlarstuva hole

It was nice to reach the top and be done with the ascent.

I took it nice and slow, heading down towards Tilrem. The path and rock were slippery after rain.

Descending to Tilrem

It was quite practical to have the bike there. Only 3,1km back to the car and I got a good round trip.

I didn’t feel well when I got home and just wanted to hit the bed. But I managed to get some dinner into the body. I had only eaten a bowl of salads during the day.

Trip statistics: 4,5km on foot, 3,1km on bike, 385 vertical meters, 1h:40m

Kvennhatten (595m), May 30 2026

My route up and down Kvennhatten

Saturday: First on the agenda today, was to drive to Sausvatn and visit my family at Saus. It’s always so nice to see them again. Sausvatn was my childhood’s paradise and I grew up with Jorun – now making the world’s best waffles!

Sausvatn

On my way home, I did a quick hike up and down Kvennhatten. I didn’t expect to see a lot during this hike and I didn’t either…

The fog is clinging to the mountain

But I do like this mountain. It’s probably one of the first mountains I ever heard about. Dovrefjell is of course a strong contender, but that’s not exactly a top…

In the forest

The path was wet after rain, but I didn’t care about it. And I actually looked forward to hiking in the fog. I find it peaceful, and I like having to concentrate about not getting lost. Which is of course hard to do as long as there is cell coverage, and you have a map on the phone. But that’s emergency tools and not something I use when I hike.

Into the fog

There were bits of snow left. The snow on the below picture took me a little by surprise. What was the odds for stumbling upon a pond and some snow, identically shaped? As it happens – low – when I realized that the snow was reflecting in the water.

Ah…

And then I was up!

On top of Kvennhatten

Nothing much to report from the descent. I took the same route down, didn’t get lost and returned to Brønnøysund, where a spent a few hours in mom’s backyard, cutting down bush.

Trip statistics: 5,7km, 570 vertical meters, 1h:34m

Gåsheituva (245m), May 30 2026

My route up and down Gåsheituva

Saturday: After finishing the work in mom’s backyard for the day, I drove up to Gåsheia to hike Gåsheituva. That would be a very short walk

Gåsheituva trailhead

I did this walk in January, in deep snow at first, but was rewarded with an amazing evening light when I reached the top.

On my way up the forest

This is most probably one of the easiest pf100 top in Brønnøy. It’s only 750 meters to the top.

The summit ahead

But the views aren’t half bad!

South view from Gåsheituva

Too bad the Velfjorden mountains were hidden in the fog

Velfjorden

As a bonus – you can see the Torghatten hole from this top. I didn’t know that I would be standing on top of that mountain the very next day

Torghatten

Ramntinden is on my to-do list this time. I decided not to do it January because of all the snow.

Skardåsen / Kamman (76m), May 30 2026

My evening walk

Saturday: Returning to Brønnøysund after the Gåsheituva hike, I could see some cool fog on Vega. I drove back to mom’s place to get my Canon and then I drove up to Skardsåsen to see if I could get a good picture.

I didn’t, and so I decided to walk the “Memorial Site round” with underground tunnels and coastal artillery positions dating from World War II.

You also have a nice view towards Brønnøysund up here…

Photographing Torghatten on my way up Skardsåsen

I have been up to Skardsåsen several times, but I’ve never done all the paths. Today, I got to do some paths I didn’t know existed. A bit of caution is recommended…

Be careful when hiking…

This area is mom’s favorite hiking ground. I do understand why.

A tree is reflecting in the pond

I stopped a little to watch the goats. They were so lovely…

For my Vega picture, I had to drive down to the harbour. But I was a little late, as the fog had retracted a bit. It was so cool to see the veil of fog creep over the island, consuming it.

Later in the evening, I got a message from the US that my second cousin Duane had received a big honour in the town of Eureka. His murals and other artwork are so amazing. Check it out!

Well deserved, Duane!

Then I got a video clip from Anne, attending a DDE concert in Årnes, together with our friends Anne May and Jan. Looked fun!
