Continued from day 1…
Monday: I had a regular working day from my “home office” in a mountain suite at Pellestova, Hafjell. It’s hard to imagine a more expensive “home office”. But it was alright. The weather was not good, it was snowing and Anne were relaxing and recovering from getting sick after returning from her week in Spain.
After my working day ended, the weather was nice and there was a bit of blue sky around. We decided to go for a ski-trip to Reinsfjellet. On the choice of skis, we landed on cross-country with built in skins.
It didn’t feel like a good choice, because I had no glide at all and worse – the snow stuck to the skis like glue. Why? I didn’t have any old wax there. Outside the skin zone, the sole was blank and the snow was piling up there. Maybe it was icing first and then the snow connected to the ice. Not sure.
On the upside, we could leave the track without sinking into deep snow. The snow carried our weight, which was a delight.

We were now getting some distance between us and Hafjell, which was nice. New territory for the both of us.
After arriving on point 1053m, the summit was 0,9km further east.
A woman was ahead of us. I chatted with her a little before Anne arrived, and I learned that it mattered to her that she arrived at the cairn before we did. She was then the first person on top today, and I can respect that it counts for something. If I hadn’t stopped at point 1053m for pictures, we would have been first on top. I am so happy that we didn’t ruin her day.
Reinsfjellet is 1063,6m so let’s say 1064m. The prominence is 99m – only 1m from making it on the exclusive list of Norwegian mountain tops, where the entry point is 100m prominence or more. There was a rock on top, maybe close to 1m high. Had the survey taken this rockinto account? I checked later on, and it seems it hasn’t. So, there is hope…
3,5km to the southwest, we could see Nevelfjell, which we skied back in December 2023. I will always remember that windy trip.
We hadn’t skied for a full hour yet, and so we discussed visiting Hitfjellet also. We agreed that we should first get off Reinsfjellet and then assess the situation.
The descent from Reinsfjellet was big fun!
When we arrived in the valley between Reinsfjellet and Hitfjellet, we saw that getting to the top of Hitfjellet wouldn’t take long and so we kept on going.
We followed the track for a little while, and then we left it again.
Finally – my (and our) first top in 2026 with a prominence of 100m+!!!
Then, a round of pictures…
83km to the northwest, I believe we saw Storronden and other Rondane mountains.
Then it was time to head back “home”
We descended into the same valley we had been in earlier and then sat course for Pellestova.
I wanted some additional vertical meters and continued up to Hafjelltoppen while Anne returned the hotel.
They hadn’t prepared the track up here today, but it was OK.
The view towards Hitfjellet and Reinsfjellet felt more “meaningful” today than when I took the same picture the day before…
After a nice shower, we went down to the pizza restaurant and enjoyed a good meal and non-alcoholic beverage…
Trip statistics: 14,9km, 460 vertical meters, 3h:08m
Continued on day 3…
