Sunday: When we got up this morning (in Sogndal), we both felt the loss of a whole hour (DST). We were effective and left for our Easter vacation at 10:15am. The weather was OK and the 297km drive went OK. We arrived at our destination – Pellestova Hotell Hafjell at 3pm.

After checking in, Anne wasn’t quite ready for checking out the cross-country tracks, so I took my mountain skis and skied the short distance up to Hafjell – or “Hafjelltoppen”, which I think it’s also called.

After 1,2km (not following any tracks) I arrived on top. It was windy and the light was bad (for me). And the top didn’t have a prominence of 100m either. But nevertheless, it was nice to be here.

For the first time in many years, I couldn’t take the next 3 days off, so this would be a different type of Easter vacation.

After doing a round on the plateau, I discovered a prepared track – which I followed back to Pellestova.

I decided to go back up one more time, this time on skating skis. As I was swapping skis, Anne came out and wanted to join in.

We followed the same track that I had come down.

I hadn’t skated in 2026 and I think I may not have skated in 2025, so I was totally out of shape. Good thing the hill wasn’t steep.

Fun, but strenuous

A little bit later, we reached the summit cairn.

We took the same route back down. I went up the room while Anne skied some more. I was quite happy with the room, which was quite expensive. We’ve never paid NOK 4000, – per night before, but that’s easily the price you have to pay for booking late for Easter. While not necessarily “luxurious”, it was at least “spacious” (I am quoting Kevin in New York here…)

Then – time for dinner at the hotel restaurant. The food was nice but the portions were not generous
