Friday: This would be a transport day, no hiking.

After breakfast, we checked out of the Gaustablikk resort, happy about our stay and the outdoor activities.

We then drove to Geilo, where we had a break for various shopping.

From Geilo, we drove to Toviki, at the end of lake Stolsvatnet, on a toll road. When we passed the toll gate at Rødungen, we called Iungsdalshytta and asked to be picked up by their boat.

I had never been hiking in Skarvheimen before (except from Hallingskarvet), at least not from the Buskerud side before, and looked very much forward to it.

Normally, the 4 km hike from Toviki to Iungsdalshytta would not have been a problem, even with a heavy backpack, but we were both struggling with emerging inflammationsAnne’s heel and my knee – and with my heavy backpack, I was worried that this would have a negative impact on our planned hikes.

After parking, we headed towards the pier.

The NOK 300,- boat ride was practical and pleasant. We had a nice chat with skipper Oskar.

This was the first official opening day at Iungsdalshytta and we were among the very first guests to arrive. While most people just stay the night (hiking from hut to hut) or stay for the weekend, we would be staying for 4 days. Effectively, Iungsdalshytta was our new base camp.

I am a big fan of tourist huts, but I’ve always tried to avoid them. It’s been very difficult while having a dog for so many years and I’ve had some nights at some dormatories where I haven’t slept a wink. So, it took a bit of convincing (myself) to go for this.

But we had reserved a room for two persons, which made all the difference. I very much looked forward to this stay, and the hikes we could do with Iungsdalshytta as base.

We got a warm welcome from Vibeke, while her husband Jarle (hut managers) was occupied with transporting lambs and goat kids on a boat.

The toilets were outdoors, of course. As it should be…

We had 3 hours to kill before dinner and my feet were restless. I could surely get up and down the nearest peak within that time, but with little margin left, if I wanted to shower before the 7pm dinner. So, I tried to relax, telling myself there would be days after this one. Anne went for a walk in Iungsdalen.

The dinner was a surpriseribs, and sour cabbage – something we normally eat only on Christmas Eve. But it tasted heavenly, even in mid-summer.

After dinner, the boat with the lambs and kid goats came in. We had to go and check them out.

The lambs were instantly doing what sheep do…

Yum...

The goat kids were just all over the place…

I enjoyed a few beers, well knowing that it was not a practical choice as the toilet was in a different building. Just a seat with a hole below. I love it.

I had brought my PC (!) I wasn’t in the mood for reading books and now I could write down the trip reports from the past week, making it easier when I would be publishing the trips on this blog, later on.

Anne called it a day early. I was invited to play a game with a family that was sitting next to us. I was able to get to bed before the quiet time at 11pm.
