We always love returning to this area

Friday: I was back in Sogndal and had dedicated the week to biking, to give my hamstring injury some time to heal.
This afternoon, I invited Anne to join me for a bike trip to Søre Gråbrørne. That is – the last part is on foot.
We started out from the Amlaholten parking in Festingdalen and followed the forest road towards Svartahol.
To me, this was very hard work. The 6km, 400 vertical meter bike trip was mainly uphill (and a few flat sections in the upper forest) My back ached from the very beginning. So, it was nice to stretch…
But it was nice too. I love this forest.
A couple of short stops helped my back. My foot was not bad, but still a little troublesome. I trust that my doctor doesn’t read my blog. He wouldn’t have approved of this trip so soon after my hamstring injury. But everyone else (in reality just one person – but – a physiotherapist) says I can be active until it hurts. And my leg didn’t hurt.
In the upper forest, the road looked OK, but the ground was soft (after recent snow melt) and progress was very hard. For me, at least. Anne had some E-help…
My motivation was to reach the awesome viewpoint near the top.
At the end of the road, we left the bikes and proceeded on foot.
We both really like this part of the forest…
Anne found a nice kelo tree that she wanted to bring back home to her garden…
And then we were on top of Søre Gråbrørne. Which is an odd name, as it’s plural. I normally refer to Nordre and Søre Gråbrørne as Nordre Gråbroren (singular) and Søre Gråbroren.
I remembered back to 2010, 1 year after Anne and I became a couple, she wanted to show me lake Kyndilstjørni. As Søre Gråbroren (!) was a top with prominence >100m, I was more than willing to come along.
I looked very much forward to show Anne the viewpoint I discovered when I did this trip in August 2025. She loved it.
Then we moved over to Kyndilstjørni…
Next to Kyndilstjørni, I came across a creature that I had a feeling I had seen in a Star Wars episode.
I looked so forward to the descent that I felt childish. I felt I had taken one step up after watching numerous biking videos on YouTube. The bike can handle more than I think it can.
But still, I can’t return to the doctor right now. So, rather safe than sorry.
I rode the forest roads as hard as I possibly could and had big fun doing so.
Before returning to the car, we checked out a biking trail that was new to us, but as it was only going upwards, we decided to let it be and look for it from above the next time.
This was a fantastic start to the Friday evening!
Trip statistics: 13,7km on bike, 1,9km on foot, 690 vertical meters, 2h:29m
