My route to Smørkletten
My route to Smørkletten

Sunday: My project today was to see if it was possible to bike from Kleppa (above Hermansverk/Leikanger) and all the way to Huksdalen. Based on my view from Høgehaug a few days earlier, I had a feeling that it was possible and today I would find out.

I parked by the sports field (110m) and biked up to Kleppa.

From Kleppa, I continued up to the point where I turned left towards Høgehaug 4 days earlier, but today I continued and soon I got Smørkletten in view. I still didn’t have a clue about how long it was possible to bike.

From here, I was able to bike additional 0,9km

The forest road was rough but bikeable.

0,9km later, the road ended and I decided to leave the bike and proceed on foot up to Smørkletten.

Clearly, my ascent route would involve a forest

The forest was not too bad. There was space between the spruce trees, and I didn’t have any problems inside the forest.

There were a few minor hurdles between the forest and the upper meadow, but nothing major.

A little bit later, I was on the upper meadow and had Smørkletten ahead of me.

The southern viewpoint was nice, but it was not the high point.

I continued up to the high point and was happy that I didn’t have to deal with a lot of snow to get there.

Looking towards Kjeringi, I expected that at least one person was on the way up – on skis or with the skis on the backpack.

My foot was not quite back to normal, but I think it would have been good enough for skiing. But I didn’t bring my skis to Sogndal. Just biking seemed like a big win when I left home more than a week ago.

OK, time to get back to Anne’s garden and do some more good…

I descended a little further west. The same type of forest and still no problems with going through the forest.

Eventually, I returned to the bike and looked forward to a long and nice descent back to the car.

When I got back to Anne’s place, the plan was to do some more work in the garden and travel home the next day. But then Anne said that the forecast mentioned snow!

I didn’t want to worry about driving home across two mountain passes, with potential snow – on summer tyres. I quickly decided that my Sogndal stay would come to an end right now.

I had a nice 3,5 hour drive back to Sunnmøre and when I got back home, Anne sent me a picture of a bird box she put up in her garden. That was the only thing on my personal to-do list that I didn’t get to finish.

Yes! Thanks, Anne!

This was a very nice stay in Sogndal. 10 days with great biking trips!

Trip statistics: 10,8km on bike, 3,6km on foot, 900 vertical meters, 2h:38m
