Sunday: The Facebook group “Skøytesport i Sogn” (Ice-skating in Sogn), together with Sogndal Turlag invited to aninformal class about safety on ice. This took place at the boat house by Barsnesfjorden.

The first part of the class was a presentation indoors.

Jakob held an good presentation, and the audience added value with good questions and personal stories.

Then, there was an outdoor session. Anne was representing Sogndal Turlag and could offer a warm place and something hot to drink.

Interestingly enough, when we got there, the ice ended at the end of the pier. When we came out of the boat house, the ice edge was significantly closer to shore!

People were encouraged to “get wet”. For me, this could have been fun but as I just had finished an antibiotics course, I didn’t want to take any chances.

Getting back up (thanks to the ice-picks) looked quite easy. None of those who took the jump had any problems getting back up. Having said that, conditions can indeed be far worse than today.

There was also opportunity to practice with a throw line.

From the many good advice this class taught us, #1, #2 and #3 is having ice-picks.
