My hike across Skoratinden and Fossanipa

Saturday: I had a work session in the morning that I was quite satisfied with. I got even more satisfied when I noticed it wasn’t raining and that the forecast didn’t mention any rain until the evening.

I felt a strong need to get away from the local islands and took the ferry to Koparneset – to hike Skoratinden.

I took the toll road (NOK 50, -) towards Årskogkoppen but parked at the bottom of the final hill. The road was rough, and I didn’t mind the extra vertical meters.

The plan was to hike straight up from the end of the dirt road. I’ve only done that route once before – back in 2009.

I stacked up the podcasts and put one foot in front of the other…

In 2009, I also hiked directly from Årskogkoppen and up to the lake. Today, I couldn’t quite understand where I hiked back then.

After the steep, 430 vertical meter hill (from the dirt road) I arrived on the ridge crest. I immediately started thinking back on my attempt in 2009 to hike down the entire ridge. I wasn’t’ able to do it then but haven’t given up on the idea.

But this time, I was going up the ridge, not down.

I started hiking upwards and soon ran into a small “problem”.

The “problem” was of the “fingers in the grass” kind, for safety. That didn’t sit right with me today, maybe because I didn’t remember if there were further difficulties higher up. In the end, I chose to go around. Looking back on my 2009 track (it’s nice to have decades of GPX tracks!) I could see that I was descending straight down, no bypass.

A few minutes later, I was on top – for the 3rd time.

The podcasts were highly interesting. I had learned about metacognitive therapy, understood anti-woke in a new way and got a better understanding of the positive effects of genetically modified food.

But, now what?

I decided to continue across Fossanipa, like I did back in 2020 – the last time I was here.

It didn’t take long to get to the top, and I could enjoy fine views. The weather was still “holding up”.

I descended Fossanipa’s south ridge, aiming to follow the lake back. In 2020, I did a more extensive round-trip, including both Myrkevassegga and Storhornet.

My brain couldn’t take any more wisdom and I put my headphones in the backpack. The rest of the hike would be done in utter silence.

Back at the cabins by lake Mørkevatnet, I hiked across Arehornet (710m). For some reason, I hadn’t been to that hump before.

Then I followed the normal path back to the dirt road and a bit later I was back at the car. Nice round-trip!
