Saturday: For sure, it wasn’t possible to go skiing on the coastline, but what about the Ørsta/Volda region? Surely, there would have to be some snow left in the mountains. But in which quality? I didn’t have a clue but decided to take the trip to Ørsta to ski Sandhornet.

Arriving at Brudevoll, the skiing conditions looked poor.

At Brudevoll. Not impressed.

But I kept the faith and carried the skis until I reached the tractor road that goes *up* the forest. I could ski up, but certainly not down.

OK...
OK…

I could follow tracks, but the snow was bad. There was a crust that would suck my skis straight in and I didn’t look forward to the descent.

I was listening to the latest episode of “National rap show” and had an OK time, enjoying the views along the way.

It has been a poor winter. Is this the new normal, or will winter resume in March, like in several recent years?

My dream is that the sea level remains snow-free and that the snow line begins at 3-400m. It hate shovelling snow for 3-4 days straight, only to watch it all rain away in the following days.

After a while, the upper mountain came into view. As there were no cars at the parking, I assumed I was all alone up here.

In the mid-section, the snow wasn’t all bad. I could see myself doing a couple of turns here, without being afraid of a nasty fall. The only problem was – there wasn’t a whole lot of snow…

The ridge to the top was just tragic.

But no matter how bad the snow was, the views were stunning.

I was able to ski all the way up, but the snow was icy and I felt a little bit uneasy about it.

But eventually, I was on top.

After a short stay, it was time for the descent. I was glad I brought my helmet. I’ve never done that in the past, but now I always bring it.

The icy section went OK and I took a last look at the surroundings.

The rocky section was so annoying. I should have just taken the skis off, but I was determined to ski it.

The middle section was 4 out of 10. I was maybe able to make 4-5 OK turns. The lower section of the hill was hard. The skis just wanted to dig into the snow, below the crust and I had to work very hard to stay afloat.

The forest section was just awful. I followed my ascent route, and the snow was wet and unforgiving. I had to get the tip of the skis up, at all costs.

Back on the tractor road, I took the skis off and followed a shortcut down to the lower tractor road. I could ski a little bit near the trailhead, but it was completely understandable why I was the only one on the mountain today.
