Tilremshatten (318m), Jan 5 2026
Monday: I felt like crap from the morning and until I found the motivation to go for another hike to Tilremshatten. I really just wanted to go to bed, but I knew I would feel better after the hike. Hopefully.
Early on, I just had to stop and pull the camera out of the backpack.
The colors were just amazing!
I enjoyed myself big time, going up the mountain. There was a thin layer of fresh snow, but the track from the day before was still solid.
The view got better and better. And – hey wait. Is that a take-off?
Yes, it is….
When I reached the 315 top, I took my last picture. It was getting properly dark by now and the red glow was fading.
Back at the main road, I went two times back up to Skardsåsen, just to secure my daily 500 vertical meters.
A beautiful hike. I didn’t really feel better afterwards, but I didn’t feel worse either.

Torghatten (258m), Jan 6 2026
Tuesday: I had a bad day today as well. Not sure what the problem was, maybe a stomach issue – affecting the overall condition. But the weather was nice and I looked forward to going to Torghatten and great some nice pictures of Brønnøysund.
When I drove to Torget, I witnessed an amazing sunset. I had to stop the car before the bridge and take some pictures of my hiking goal – Torghatten.
After 0,5km along a path, I got started on the ascent up the mountain.
The path was OK. I was definitely not the first person going up this year.
The mid-section is always darn fun. It’s steep, but it never was a problem for Karma. Plus, there are handrails. I must admit I used them to drag me up (the snow was tedious) and control my descent.
The beautiful glow was fading.
The last part always takes me by surprise. Every time I think I’m up, there’s this bit still to go…
But the top was windy. No matter how I played around with low ISO and long exposure, I couldn’t get the picture I wanted. This was the only picture I didn’t bluntly dismissed.
Then I went back down.
And then I went up again. This 258m mountain doesn’t give me my daily 500 vertical meters, but two hikes would.
It was tempting to go for a descent down the north side. But there is a long descent before the “crux” and if there was ice, it could have been a risky descent. So, I skipped the idea and went down the route I came up.

Tilremshatten, Jan 7 2026
Wednesday: This was a very windy day, and I didn’t feel for hiking a mountain exposed to the freezing wind, in the dark. The path of least resistance was to do another hike to Tilremshatten, directly from my mom’s house in Brønnøysund.
When I got to Skardsåsen, I could see that there was a beautiful, red glow in the horizon today as well.
In the dark, there’s nothing much except the Torghatten mountain and the town, to take pictures of.
I met a guy a few minutes after taking the below picture. He promised me much less wind once I got to the main ridge, and he was right.
I enjoyed 4 episodes about the Golden eagle that attacked several people in the autumn of 2024. That was totally abnormal behaviour and the echo chambers exploded and the demand to remove the eagles’ protection rose.
I don’t think anyone in those chambers got even slightly embarrassed when the truth came out – this was a tame eagle (as in illegal or careless activity), with no skills in hunting on its own and relying on people for food. And when no food was given, it tilted. Eventually, the eagle got shot down (a sanctioned kill) and the autopsy report revealed that there was no food at all in the stomach. It would probably have died from starvation in a very short time.
Meanwhile, the town view got nicer and nicer. As the wind wasn’t so strong along the sheltered ridge, I got away with ISO-100.
This was my 3rd hike to Tilremshatten in 4 days, and I’d really like to go to other mountains tops. But it’s a trade-off. The light I can enjoy on this nearby mountain is lost if I have to drive 30 minutes for another top.
Eventually, I reached the top and took my last picture of the day.
Back on the main road, I went twice back up to Skardsåsen (the upper “Gapahuk” at 70m elevation). I was even jogging a bit, going up.
Back home, I made dinner for me and my mom. She is getting better day by day. I was very pleased when she clearly enjoyed the meal. It’s a recipe you won’t find in any cooking books…

Tilremshatten (318m), Jan 8 2026
Thursday: What a weather day. Severe blowing snow in gale-force winds. Being outside was just unpleasant. My tentative idea of hiking Mosaksla quickly got cancelled. There would be no protection from the wind from the east.
So, I ended up going to Tilremshatten one more time. Skardsåsen was OK, and I was able to get a couple of OK pictures, using my backpack to shelter the camera.
The open section between Skardsåsen and the ridge was brutal. I felt I was tossed around like a ragdoll. My headlamp got ripped off my head and landed 10m away. I really struggled to keep the balance and make progress. Based on previous experiences, I assumed the wind was in the range 18-20 m/s. Clearly gale-force.
When I reached the ridge, there was hardly any wind at all, and I had an easy hike up the forest.
After visiting the high point, I went down to 200m elevation and went back up again. The daily need had to be satisfied…
It felt far better getting this over with early on, compared to descending down to the main road and hike Skardsåsen twice – which I had done the previous days.
I’m desperate to visit another mountain, but with the current weather and lack of daylight, Tilremshatten is the best choice – if I’m to get at least one decent picture of something with lights in it…

Trælneshatten (567m), Jan 9 2026
Friday: The weather was slightly better today. It was still windy, but not as bad as the day before. I decided to go to Trælneshatten for my afternoon hike. I hadn’t been up there since 2005!
It was a 30-minute drive, which was “costly” in terms of daylight, but I had started working early this morning and could log off work 2:30pm with an OK conscience.
I didn’t remember anything from the 2005 hike, but I had no problems locating the trailhead or the path. And then I was on my way.
I enjoyed the steep part of the trail, secured with handrails.
It was easy to follow the path, as I just had to look for footprints.
As I was hiking fairly early in the afternoon, I had daylight all the way to the top.
It was very windy on the upper mountain and all pictures I took towards Brønnøysund turned out crap.
On my way down, I was able to find a somewhat sheltered spot and got an OK picture towards Berg.
I really enjoyed this hike. Need to come back more often!

Svarthopen, Jan 10 2026
Saturday: Mom was bored from walking in the neighbourhood and wanted to walk along a real path. She wanted to go to Svarthopen and since she can’t drive when on heavy pain killers (for a prolapse), I had to come along.
It was fine though. I enjoy this route. Perhaps more on a bike than on foot, but it was OK.
It was nice to see mom on a path again. I hope it won’t take too long before she can leave the crutches back home.
I particularly like the outdoor “sports gym”. If I had lived her permanently, I would have defined a route that I would go through regularly.
After a 3,8km round, mom was satisfied – for now.

Tilremshatten (318m), Jan 10 2026
Saturday: It had begun to snow, and the weather was not too good. I had all sorts of plans for hiking today, but they all got thrown away. It just had to be Tilremshatten – for the 4th time this week.
On my way up the mountain, I just had to introduce some variations to the normal route. But what?
The first variation was to cross “Flata” and ascend the east ridge up to Storskardåsen.
It was much more fun following this ridge upwards!
Exciting terrain all around!
Then I joined the normal route and passed Havlarstuva.
I reached the top and was keen on another variation to my usual route. Why not descend to Tilrem? It would be a boring walk back home along FV17, but at least I would get a new route.
I could see faint tracks from Kjell Iver and his family’s descent her a few days ago, but they soon vanished and I was on my own – and the GPS map.
The descent went OK, although it was difficult to navigate with the headlamp on, in the snowfall. It was snowing properly now! Brønnøysund got winter right here and now!
The route led me to this fun crack, that I had to pass through.
Eventually, I got on FV17 and decided to jog back home. It was a bit awkward being a pedestrian in this snowstorm. The cars (or more precisely – the drivers) got quite nervous when they saw my headlamp.
But I got home safe and sound and immediately got to work. First, the driveway had to be cleared of snow. Then I had to chop wood. An hour later, I could get my wet clothes off and start making dinner. Today’s course was spaghetti with ground beef, pesto and parmesan. She enjoyed the meal and my “duties” for the day had come to an end.
