Sunday: The weather was nice, and I wanted to go to Sylvkallen and bring my camera. I decided to leave it back home on our Poland trip. I missed. Maybe I could get some nice photos this afternoon. Unfortunately, I couldn’t convince Anne to come along.
I had just exited the Eiksund tunnel before I had to stop for the first picture of the day.
There were more stops along the way…
It was great to be back on Standaleidet in autumn colors.
Søre Sætretind – I wonder if I’ll ever get up there…
Finally, I got to the Røra parking and could take Sylvkallen into view. There was fresh snow on top. Didn’t seem like a problem.
The ascent to the Nøvedalen valley is *always* wet and muddy. Today was no exception and I was happy when I arrived in the valley.
There were 4-5 other cars at the trailhead. I assumed I would run into hikers sooner or later. Unless they were all going to Nonshornet, something I found very unlikely.
Once finished with the valley crossing, I could get going on the final 700 vertical meters.
I was so glad I decided to bring my camera. The Iphone wouldn’t have done justice to the surroundings.
When I reached the snow, I didn’t think about the path anymore. I just followed the rocks where there was little snow.
I made myself a promise to become more familiar with Nøvedalen.
I wondered for how long this snow would linger. The first snow typically melts away quite soon.
There were several hikers on the upper mountain. 4 were going up, 9 were going down. 5 of the 9 were carrying rifles. I don’t really see the safety dimension in grouse hunting on a popular hiking top.
It took me 1,5 hours to reach the top (including numerous photo stops).
I hiked a little along the northeast ridge to find the best viewpoint towards Hjørundfjorden.
Then I went back up to the top for MANY more pictures…
I am so lucky to be living so close to the Sunnmøre alps.
It’s fun to look at the mountains I’ve been to, but even more the mountains I haven’t been to (yet)
After a little while, I headed back down. I soon ran into the family of four, and they were wondering if it would begin to snow. There were indeed some kind of showers going on in the southwest, but I said I didn’t expect there would be skiing conditions up there today…
I enjoyed this hike. I remember my last hike here (in 2023) was quite strenuous. Today, I felt it was quite easy. Maybe because the hike back then was after work.
I took as many pictures going down, as I did when going up…

After passing all the hikers, I didn’t expect to meet anyone else. But then I met a farmer who had gotten a text from one of the other hikers, having seen some sheep. He asked me if I had seen any.
I hadn’t, but I definitely heard the bells. I was a bit annoyed with myself for not paying closer attention.
3 hours after leaving, I returned to the car. Excellent hike!
