Nyken (800m), Sep 3 2025
Wednesday: After work, I got in my car and sat course for Sogndal. I had already decided to pay Nyken a visit – for the first time in 2025. I had already been to Hamnanova earlier this year.
The weather was nice back home, but it got gradually darker and gloomier the closer to Jølster I came. I had a feeling that I would get some rain.
I drove up Dvergsdalsdalen and parked by the “Grustak” (quarry). As I wanted to do this hike as quickly as possible, I went up to Hamnanova (732m) first. The path is quite good, and I am able to keep a good pace here.
Above the forest, I stopped for a picture towards Orkja and lake Jølstravatnet.
On Hamnanova, I got my mandatory picture towards Skei and Kjøsnesfjorden…
Then I continued towards Nyken. I could feel drops of rain, but the main shower was still “lurking” in Kjøsnesfjorden.
I was happy to get to Nyken without rain. I don’t care too much about rain on my way down a mountain, but I do not like it on my way up.
I followed the path down to Djupeskaret, then down the forest and turned right at the fork signposted “Grustak”.
The hike took 52 minutes, and that’s the fastest round I’ve done here. The first time under an hour also, but I can’t really say I remember having done this hike with high pace all the way.
Then I continued to Sogndal and had a nice evening with Anne.

Stedjeåsen (624m), Sep 4 2025
Thursday: I wanted to hike Tylderingen (1105m) and drove up Sogndalsdalen after work, only to turn around when I met the first rain shower. It’s not that I can’t hike in rain, but today I just didn’t want to.
It was hardly raining in Sogndal – 10 minutes at the end of the valley and so I chose to hike Stedjeåsen instead.
After just a couple of minutes, I ran into horses.
That put me in a really good mood. I like horses.
I then followed a path no one hardly uses, before I went off-trail along a route I hadn’t done before. Eventually, I ended up at Stedjestova.
I followed the path for a few minutes before I went off-trail again. The terrain was more cumbersome now, and I was wet from the rainy grass.
It was nice to get back on paths in the green forest.
By the Sogndalsfjorden viewpoint, I ran into sheep. That was nice. They observed me closely but made no effort to make contact.
Next, I went over to the viewpoint. It’s nice but would have been even nicer without 4 or 5 of the pines blocking the view.
Shortly after, I was on top – via a steep off-trail route I hadn’t done before.
My off-trail adventures were over for the day, and I followed the normal paths down the forest.
