Our route across Lidafjellet and Huldrehornet

Monday: The week started out with great weather, and it would have been nice to go to a peak somewhere. But I had a chore to do. I had to produce a GPX track from Stemmedalen to Dyrkyrkja, to be used on a new “Stikk Ut!” route description.

Heading out from Stemmedalen

I could have used some old tracks (Lord knows I have many of them), stitched them together and hacked the timestamps. But I’d like to do things thoroughly and headed out from Stemmedalen with both my Garmin GPS and the NaVida phone app tracking.

Going up Lidafjellet

I do enjoy the hike across Lidafjellet. I like the many slabs. Too bad it’s not a prominent mountain top.

On our way across Lidafjellet

It was weird to see the dog with this little hair. February is not the best month for a haircut on a dog which is struggling with hair loss. But because of the recent surgery, I had to postpone the haircut. I could see that she was struggling in a warm room. She looked very happy now.

On top of Lidafjellet

I had to figure out what to do after having tracked the route. One option was to turn around at Dyrkyrkja and continue to Huldrehornet. But I wasn’t sure how dark it would get, and I hadn’t brought a headlamp.

I decided to walk back home, leave Karma there and be very creative in finding a bike route back to Stemmedalen that involved some vertical meters. I really wanted to start the week with 500 vertical meters or more. I don’t know. It’s just a thing I’ve got now. 500 in average is the bar. It’s not a whole lot of effort either.

But I really wanted to be on a top with some prominence and decided that Huldrehornet would be involved in the project of picking up the car in Stemmedalen.

OK, first things first. We headed down to the Dyrkyrkja rock and the “official” part of the tracking job was over. The Garmin GPS had recorded 299 points over a distance of 2,2km. The app had recorded 839 points over a distance of 2,3km. I’m pretty sure I’ve set the Garmin to “high interval”. But it’s an old GPS – an Oregon I bought for 1000NOK because the guy in the sports shop desperately wanted to get rid of it.

Arriving at Dyrkyrkja

I had a good view towards my house and that’s where we were heading next.

Getting Karma on this rock requires effort. Maybe I will try one day

Down in the forest, I looked forward to checking out the anti-slip mesh that our trail committee colleague Hans had installed. It worked perfectly and in the very next minute, Hans and his wife came up to do more work on the walkways.

Cool!

I left Karma back home and took the bike for a short 1,1km trip to the Huldrehornet trailhead by lake Djupvikvatnet.

Blåtind and Haddalshornet

I had brought my camera here as well and once above the forest, I stopped for some pictures.

When I reached the top of Huldrehornet, it was getting properly dark, and I took a couple of more pictures before I switched the headlamp on and sat course for Lidafjellet and Stemmedalen.

Back home, I started writing the “Stikk Ut!” description for this route, but for some reason, I couldn’t upload the track onto the web portal. Long story short – I had to remove all the elevation and timestamp tags…
