Our route up and down Sollia

Friday: Half the day was spent at the Car repair shop and very seldom, I leave with the feeling “oh, this was a positive experience”. Today, they presented problems worth 4000 Euros. “Fuck this”, I concluded and got hold of a sales guy, telling him I wanted a brand-new VW Caddy Maxi and a good deal on my 7-year-old car. He said he’ll be in touch.

After work, I chose to hike Sollia from Leikongeidet. Karma was all fired up. It was a nice afternoon, albeit nowhere as nice as the past days.

After 5 minutes, I realized I had forgotten the headlamp. This could be a potential problem. Let’s see. We left the trailhead 3:45pm. It would be dark by 5:45pm. We had 5km to the top and we would have to keep an average speed of 5km/h to avoid fumbling around in the dark. Doable, but stressful.

Come on, Karma. No breaks today!

I did take the time needed to take pictures though. In worst case, I would have to use the cell phone as a headlamp.

Oh that's nice!

We kept a good pace, and my goal was to be on top by 4:45pm.

To be on the safe side, I did a little bit of jogging on the flat pitches. And when we reached the top – the time was … 4:45pm!

On the coastline, I could see a single snow shower traveling in the direction of Ulsteinvik. It was somewhat odd. The weather was quite OK, and then there was a snow shower!

Strange!

We didn’t waste much time on top and quickly headed towards the route along the north side of lake Holmevatnet.

As the ground was frozen, I was able to do a few shortcuts that didn’t cost all that much. With that, I mean that without the frost, the shortcuts would have been very strenuous.

My goal was to reach the trailhead no later than 5:45pm, which was the time I turned on my headlamp on Godøya the day before.

After a while, I felt I had good control of the remaining daylight. We reached the trailhead 5:44pm, which means that I have a rather good feel for this particular route.

What a week it had been so far. In average per day, we had been hiking 9,5km and 650 vertical meters. I can’t remember a week like this, ever!

Back home, Karma got her dinner, enjoyed it and went to bed in the most aggravating way. I would like to see her lie down, look tired, relaxed and happy. Nah., she did lie down but kept her paws on the floor – ready to head out on a very short notice. She literally had I  A M  B O R E D all over her face. The only positive thing about this, is that she is probably in a very good shape right now.

Trip statistics: 10,5km, 650 vertical meters, 2h:01m
