Saturday: My working day this Saturday began 7:45am and the first part of it finished at 11am. Then I had a few hours off and decided to hike Løkeberget from Løset.
It was tempting to hike a higher mountain – like Garnestua – but I had been to Garnestua in 2025, and not Løkeberget. So…
Life was good. The weather was nice, and Karma was on fire…
We followed the normal route to the top. We would have other opportunities later on…
High on the mountain, it was cold and windy. Not even the hood could protect my face from the wind.
We would stay on top for a minute, but then we would be heading down the east ridge, without a particular plan.
Maybe we would follow the path alongside lake Hammarstøylsvatnet. Or – could we actually walk on the lake?
In any case, in order to get to the lake, we had to follow the gravel road from Snipsøyrvatnet.
When we got to the lake, I was nervous. The ice was only a few cm thick, and I wasn’t sure if it would hold.
It was scary to walk on the blank ice. For Karma, it was just difficult. She looked like Bambi.
But fortunately, there was a layer of snow alongside the shore, which provided grip for Karma and mental comfort for me. There’s no need to worry about a problem you cannot see…
Eventually, I started to relax and enjoyed the walk.
After a while, we got onto the Fjelle road, but we just crossed it and headed down to lake Fjellsvatnet. I assume the ice was about the same quality. The upside was that there was more snow.
I truly enjoyed this hike. I had skied on lake Fjellsvatnet before, but I had not been hiking across it, and I had never crossed lake Hammarstøylsvatnet before. New tracks on my all-time GPS map. Bonus!
All afternoon hikes this week had been 9km+. I could not finish a Saturday hike with a distance less than that. As we closed in on the car, I could see that we had already exceeded 9km and all was good!
Then it was back to work. I might have had plans to do another hike in the afternoon, but I was too tired. Løkberget would simply have to do for today…
Trip statistics: 9,3km, 480 vertical meters, 2h:14m
