Our route across Sandhornet
Our route across Sandhornet

Sunday: Today, I decided to drive to Ørsta to hike across Sandhornet. The weather was OK, and I had noticed earlier in the week that there wasn’t much snow on the mountain.

I decided to start out from Kråkenakkevegen. I like the nice trail up the forest.

For some reason, Karma isn’t thrilled about this route. I had to “get her going” …

She livened up a little bit when we reached Brekkesætra.

A little bit later, we were on the ridge up the mountain. I decided to let Karma be off the leash for now.

Hmm.. what's that noise?

The progress was good, and I called for a short break to take in the views

Eventually, the leash came on. Karma has no concept of steep and slippery snow. Or cornices for that matter.

We arrived on Grøthornet without problems. Now, we just had to descend to the saddle and then take on the final 200 vertical meters.

I was happy that there were naked rocks up the summit ridge. I would not have been comfortable doing this route with hard snow on just ice cleats.

Karma strongly felt she had deserved something for the struggle…

At this time of the year, a trip to Sandhornet should be on skis! This is not good!

I wanted a round-trip hike, and we headed down to the saddle between Sandhornet and Rebbestadhornet.

Once past the turfs and rocks, we could enjoy snow with some kind of sole under.

Finally - downhill!

Karma seemed to enjoy herself a lot!

I walked with the camera in my hand, ready for whatever motive that came my way…

Looking back on Sandhornet – one could be skiing here, but it would be slalom. But one would like to ski from the trailhead and that was certainly not possible today…

Next, we started looking for the forest path that runs below Grøthornet. With snow, it wasn’t easy to find it, but once we stumbled on it, we were able to follow it all the way down.

All our hikes this week had been 9km or more. This hike seemed to end on 8,9km and so we “had” to walk a little back and forth when we got back to the car. Karma was confused.

On our way back home, I could see some interesting clouds out in the ocean. Snow showers?

Hey...
Hey…

I decided to drive to Jensholmen for some better views, but didn’t really get any. And I didn’t bother to drive all the way out to the coastline. Maybe we will wake up to snow in the morning. Or maybe we won’t.

OK, let's call it a day...
