Sunday: The day before, Anne and I agreed to take a trip to Kvamsøya if the weather wasn’t too bad. Anne had never been to this island before and could look forward to another island top with prominence > 100m. There are 400 in total on the Norway mainland. She hasn’t kept count yet, but I have been to 131 different island tops in that category.
I had been to Kvamsøya and Nonshornet twice. The last time was in 2018, with Karma.
We left the car at Larsnes and took the 11:40am “milky route” (Larsnes – Åram – Voksa – Kvamsøya)
12:25pm, we left the ferry and began our bike trip to lake Myrvatnet.
New since 2018, was a gravel road all the way up to the lake.
Anne had an easy trip on her E-bike. My trip was way harder…
Eventually, the road ended and we left our bikes.
Our next stop would be the mountain top…
I haven’t really felt that Kvamsøya was so interesting, maybe because the weather hasn’t been so good on my hikes here. But Anne loved it.
The hike to Nonshornet seems quite popular, and I would assume especially so after the new road came along. We met people coming down from the mountain and there were others behind us.
Now, both my girls had been to this top.
We went down to a nice viewpoint, overlooking Riste and Sandsøya.
To get to Riste, you need a boat. I was so lucky to be taken there by my colleague Vidar, back in 2010.
We were not in a direct hurry. The time was 1:25pm and the ferry wasn’t leaving until 3pm. But, we wanted to do a bike trip to Ristesundet also. So, we began our descent.
I really looked forward to getting on the bike and blast down the gravel road. The only problem was that the gravel was quite big, and I had to be a bit careful.
A little bit later, we were on our way to Ristesundet, with the wind against us.
The beach was really nice.
I wanted to do something fun with the bike, and at the time I didn’t know that this was a nature preserve, and hence – biking not allowed. We only discovered this on our way back, when we stopped by an information plaque. I hadn’t noticed it on the map and when I checked again, the nature preserve border is only seen at certain zoom levels. That’s just dumb.
That said, it’s still our responsibility. The only tracks I left would be gone by the next tide, so it’s not as if I made any permanent damage.
Before returning to the ferry harbour, we stopped by Seleberget.
Then we returned to the ferry harbour, enjoyed our lunch and waited for the ferry.
At Larsnes, I decided that I wanted to bike home and gave the car keys to Anne. I normally take as many trails and side roads as possible, but today, I stuck to the main roads but stepped aside when the cars from the ferries came up behind me. I dislike being in a long queue behind a cyclist so I’m sure not going to create one myself…
I got a small rain shower across Leikongeidet. Other than that, it was a nice trip.
Nonshornet: 2,8km on foot, 16,7km on bike, 485 vertical meters, 2h:13m
Larsnes – Myrvåg: 18,8km on bike, 490 vertical meters, 1h:11m
