Thursday: Working day in Ålesund and the alarm was set to 4:50am. I felt surprisingly fresh and felt that this could be a good day.
8am, we were at the Vet for the monthly Librela injection, plus a blood sample that would tell if Karma was en route for the planned operation in March.
After work, I drove to Godøya to hike across Storhornet and Lesten. I hadn’t been to Lesten since 2017, and I looked forward to a revisit. We headed out from Alnes.
The time was 4pm and I knew that the sun would set around 5pm and that the headlamp would have to come on around 45 minutes after the sun had gone down.
I really looked forward to this round-trip hike. With the beautiful weather, it was destined to be great already from the start.
When we reached the lake (Alnesvatnet), I had two routes to choose between. In November, we took the route passing “Johan Skytt”. Today, we took the route closest to the mountain.
The sun was setting fast, and my camera was running hot, trying to capture as many motives as possible.
Exactly one hour after heading out, we reached the top.
As I had expected, we were not alone up here. People were coming and going, and it was nice to see people seizing the moment.
As expected, I could see the sun disappearing from the summit. I expected that we might reach the top of Lesten before the headlamp had to be switched on.
I have always enjoyed Storhornet’s profile, seen from the Lesten side.
Again, I was pretty close on my predictions. Shortly after passing Lesten, I chose to turn on the headlamp.
On Lesten, I got a bit of a “shock”. The route along the cliffs was much, much longer than I remembered it to be. I wasn’t exactly in a hurry, but I wanted to get home and have time for dinner before it was time to hit the bed.
I noticed a path that I hoped was a shortcut, but it seemed to lead us in the direction of Storhornet. So, I decided to go off-trail. The terrain was terrible, but eventually we reached the lake and could follow a trail back to Nonshornet – where we came up.
Now, we were back on the Alnesfjellvegen trail (which we came up) and the rocks were icy and slippery. I really had to focus to get back down, safe and sound.
We reached the car 6:40pm. I figured I would reach the 7:30pm ferry from Sulesund (and I did) and then my ETA back home would be just before 8:30pm. Not too bad.
Trip statistics: 9,2km, 740 vertical meters, 2h:36m
