Gjøna (531m), Aug 9 2021

Don’t get me wrong though. Being able to go to the mountains – even if it’s the same ol’ same ol’ local mountains – is a privilege!

This week was just lacking – something – from being above ordinary. Like some stunning weather, some magic light, or some route that got my heart buzzin’. But some weeks are just like these and I will cherish them anyhow…

Gjøna (Gurskøya island) is actually quite a fun coastal top to hike. Today, we took the new route west of Muren and descended via Muren.

Gjerdsvika

The route is steep and you get some good views towards Gjerdsvika, Sandsøya, and more.

View towards Riste

Ulsteinvik

Really, really low on energy today. Still, mustered enough will and strength to take a round-trip hike across Hasundhornet on Hareidlandet island…

Round-trip to Haddalshornet on Hareidlandet from Eiksund. Soaking wet after 5 minutes due to high, wet grass…

Sandhornet (1065m), Aug 15 2021

Into the fog…

I skied Sandhornet from the Folkestad side with Åsmund Steen in 2009 and haven’t been back since. Today, I wanted to explore the route from the Dale side. One can drive all the way up to lake Litlebøvatnet (645m) and follow a path up to the top.

Unfortunately, it was a foggy day and got cheated of the fine views that this mountain has to offer.

Lake Litlebøvatnet with Trollvasstinden beyond

From Sandhornet, we followed the ridge to the 1059m top. From here, we had better views – especially towards Folkestad.

We continued along the ridge in the direction of Grøthornet before we went off-trail and made our way back down to the lake. All in all, fun to have visited this top along a new route!
