Monday: On my way home from Sogndal, I had time and opportunity to finally visit Klovane in Oldedalen valley. This top has been on my mind for quite a while, but I hadn’t found the time until today.
Klovane is a dwarf compared to the more majestic peaks surrounding the beautiful Oldedalen, but – it has a primary factor >= 100m, and as such it was on my to-do list.
The trailhead is found just behind the camping at Mindresunde – the sound in the middle of lake Oldevatnet. The path is well worn and there are signposts.
A bunch of cows were chillin’ along the path and I had to take a detour in the forest to avoid a possible confrontation. You never know how cows deal with dogs.
The path climbs steeply up the forest. You should be in shape for this, as it’s 900 (+) vertical meters straight up.
There are no real difficulties along the way, unless you bring a dog that isn’t used to scrambling…
I didn’t know anything about this route but was still surprised to find several places where the dog had to scramble. And one spot had some minor exposure. But it all went well, up and down.
Finally, we could take on the last part up to the summit. I knew that the views would be stunning, but not today. Today, there was fog!
But that was OK. I have done some hikes in this region in the past and got my share of nice pictures. To get a feeling for how this area looks like, please check out this post.
The mountain wasn’t completely fogged in, which was a bonus. Seeing something is always better than nothing.
The west top (965m) wasn’t on my to-do list today. Maybe one day, if I start collecting tops with primary factor < 100m.
It was a fun hike. A really good exercise. Too bad about the fog, but that’s part of the game.
Trip statistics: 5,7km, 930 vertical meters, 2h:05m
