Rødøy, June 29 2014

We had been so lucky to catch a ferry that was going almost direct from Storselsøy to Rødøy. That was a huge bonus, as we thought we had to get to Tonnes and find new transport to Rødøy.

Lucky us!

Taking the ferries and express boats is a great way of traveling, and when we’re so fortunate to enjoy art along the way…

Must be worth millions!

Bjørn Eirik was on his way from Hestmona in his kayak. As we arrived first on Rødøy, it was our job to find a campsite, and we didn’t have to walk far from the ferry harbor before we found an OK place to camp. And then we noticed a dot out in the sea. Could it be him? Already?

Isn't that...
Isn’t that…

Sure enough!

Once he had set up his tent, we could go to the local restaurant for a game of pool, something to eat and something to drink.

I guess Karma had grown accustomed to the camplife by now. She seemed happy enough…

Strange days?

We were quite happy with the campsite and eventually called it a day.

Belgen (51m), June 30 2014

Around 8am the next morning, Karma and I took a morning walk up to the nearest top – Belgen.

It was a nice walk and it was extra nice to have an OK view towards Rødøyløva – which we would hike after breakfast.

There was no activity in the campsite, so we didn’t have to rush anything.

Eventually, it was time to return to camp and get some breakfast.

All of a sudden, an express boat passed the Coastal express…

Funny...

I was getting restless, and sent Karma over to Bjørn Eiriks tent to check if he was awake…

A bit later, we were ready for the main goal for the day – Rødøyløva!

Shall we go?
Shall we go?

Rødøyløva (443m), June 30 2014

10:30am, we were on our way to Rødøyløva. There was a little fog on top, but we assumed it would be gone by the time we got there.

Rødøyløva, here we come!

The path was well marked and not difficult to find.

60-70 meters later, we turned onto the mountain path and headed into the valley below Urtinden.

You’ll most likely never be alone on this mountain in the tourist season…

We could see that there was quite a bit of fog on the mountain, so the panorama pictures had to be taken before we got up…

We found a cool rock below the top…

The fog was annoying, but we remained optimistic

What about you, Anne? Do you have faith?

We didn't order fog!

The fog wasn’t thick, and we got a glimpse of the sandy beaches below.

Oh my goshness!

We were all super stoked to be here!

What a coastline! After leaving Træna, Lovund, Onøy, Lurøy and Hestmannen, I had a strong feeling I would never be back, which was OK. There are many places I want to visit. But when I looked down on the islands, the islets, the blue and green water and the white beaches, I wanted to be back. With a kayak!

This is awesome!

And wouldn’t you know! 7 years later, we were all back on Rødøy – with kayaks!

After a while, the fog disappeared and we left the top.

It was a bonus to get a roundtrip hike. I really, really like roundtrip hikes…

Sure enough. It was the Royal Yacht Norge (Kongskipet Norge)…

Bjørn Eirik was good at chillin‘…

Eventually, it was time for dinner and we had made room for a dinner at Klokkergården on our budgets…

This was our final evening together. We had hung together for a week, been on top of Trænstaven, Mjåtinden, Hestmannen and Rødøyløva together. The next day, Bjørn Eirik would kayak back to Onøy to pick up his car while Anne, Karma and I would be setting course towards Aldra.

Many thanks to Bjørn Eirik for his company, and for leading the climb up Trænstaven!

Enjoying a great meal at Klokkergården!
