Monday: Long day. Took the 6:20am ferry to Sulesund to spend the first part of my day in Ålesund. Work, then off to the Vet for Karma’s monthly Librela injection. Then more work, and off to the Orthopedist for a final talk about my knee.
I told him I found it funny. The bad knee is there if I put on socks, trousers, rest casually with one knee over the other, etc. But when I hike, no pain! I asked him – how many patients do you have where hiking a mountain is the least of their problem? Not many, he concluded.
Then back to work, and then off back to the ferry to reach a cake celebration (another project successfully delivered) in my other working office (which I very rarely visit). On the way there, I stopped by the Ovrasanden beach to let Karma blow off some steam. And boy, she had some steam to blow out!
It was a gorgeous day, except for the cold wind and the fact that a good dump of snow had fallen yesterday. Which – is normally not an “except for”, but when there’s not enough for skiing, it’s an “except for”.
After cake and more work, I decided to call it a day and hike Melshornet, since I was in Hjørungavåg. I had already hiked Melshornet from Hjørungavåg back in January, and this time I decided to hike from Ulset (116m). The tractor road was easy enough. But I wondered how much snow there was on the mountain.
We had a fairly easy hike up the forest. Karma was still very eager, which was good news. She was leading the entire way.
Every now and then, she looked back at me to check if I was following or not. She would have not proceeded without me. That’s for sure.
Higher up, the snow became a bit strenuous. I couldn’t avoid wind-packed snow, which didn’t carry my weight. So far, Karma was good.
But when we were closing in on the final hill, that changed.
Karma was no longer “good”. She was fighting her way to the top. Attagirl!
But eventually, we got up…
Karma had for sure earned her treats today…
While Karma was enjoying her treats, I enjoyed my time with the camera…
It was windy up there. It was not a place I wanted to stay for long and so we headed back down.
Normally, a snowy hill is easier going down. For Karma, that was not the case today.
But after a while, we were back in easier terrain and could enjoy our descent.
It was a good start to the week!
