It was time to leave mom’s place in Brønnøysund and head north. We had a place to be at a given time. We hit the E6 and stopped in Mo i Rana to shop groceries before continuing up Saltfjellet. After passing the Polar Circle, we decided that we should walk the dog up here and look for a place to park for the night.
Sørfjellet seemed like a nice hiking goal – a 5km+ hike from the main road.
We followed the main path along Namlauselva (“river without a name”) until it was time to go off-trail.
The higher mountains had fog, but the fog was clearly lifting.
The only obstacle was mosquitoes. We had to zip our jackets to keep the buggers out.
Eventually we reached the top and could celebrate “another one in the bag”.
We took a more direct route back down before joining the path again.
Back at the car, we had originally planned to just park alongside the road. But we drove a little in the direction of Lønsdal and found a side road which no other RVs had found. It was a perfect place, sheltered from the traffic noise, and it was good we had a car to stay inside in, because the mosquitoes outside were no fun at all!
Trip statistics: 10,4km, 520 vertical meters, 2h:39m
