Our hike across Rambjøra
Our hike across Rambjøra

Friday: I had promised Anne to pick her up at Hovden airport at 6pm, when she returned from her Pentecost break in eastern Norway. As we would be joining friends for dinner at 7pm, there would be no time for hiking.

So, I left work a little earlier than Norway and walked the dog across my local forest top Rambjøra, while letting the brush cutter do its work…

Then I drove to Hovden airport and gave Karma a short walk in the outskirts of the airport before we waited for Anne in the car – enjoying the view towards Saudehornet – which I hiked the day before.

Our route across Levandehornet

Saturday: The dinner with friends on Friday evening was nice, but I left the car there and would have to retrieve it before we could go anywhere. I decided to take the bike.

It was a foggy morning, and I was just happy that it wasn’t so hot as it had been all week.

Back home, I suggested to Anne that we could hike Levandehornet in Ørsta. She had not been to that top before, and so we took the drive to Vartdal and Årsetdalen, and then the toll road up to Busetsætra.

It was really hot when we left the trailhead. This was no means a long hike, but steep enough to make Karma thirsty. And so, I had brought water for her.

The last time I was here, I promised myself that next time – I would check out the northeast ridge. But that wouldn’t happen today. At least, we would get the regular roundtrip hike via Skorgestøylen.

After a while, we had to stop so Karma could get something to drink.

Then we went for the final hillside.

Here we come!

There was some snow left, so Karma got to cool down a little before the last, steep hill.

Both my gals were breathing heavily in the final hill…

Come on! Almost up!

But eventually, we reached the top and there were smiles all around!

3 women came up from the south side just as we reached the top. They had a dog, but this summit was not the place to let two dogs get to know each other…

After a while, we headed down the south ridge.

Anne wanted to take a bath and so we sat course for the Svartevatna lakes.

Arriving at the lakes, it didn’t take long before Anne was out in the water…

Karma could not be persuaded to go for a swim, and so we had to trigger her instincts. I found a bush that I threw out on a floating piece of ice.

With the gals properly cooled down, it was time to head back home. Then it occurred to me – I had forgotten to buy beer for the weekend. A small crisis!

The time was 4:10pm and we were by the Svartevatna lakes. The stores stopped selling beer at 6pm and trying to make it seemed like a longshot. I didn’t know if the store in Vartdal was open. Worst case, we nearest open store was in Ørsta. I asked Anne if she was willing to step up the pace and give it a go?

She was, and so we jogged down to Skorgestøylen.

We passed Skorgestøylen 4:30pm and I started to think that this could actually work. Anne kept on jogging, and we were back at the car 4:43pm.

As the Vartdal store was open, I had secured my beer for the weekend before 5pm. I could not have imagined that when the beer problem occurred to me 50 minutes earlier…

Great hike and the beer on Saturday evening tasted extra nice!
