Thursday: I really wanted to visit Saudehornet (in Ørsta) again, but this was a trip I knew that Karma would refuse to come along for. I don’t know what the problem is, other than that the 4km hike to the top spans 1150 vertical meters. In other words – it’s a long and steep hill!
So, I left her back home and took the drive to Ørsta.
After the boring gravel road into Vikeskåla, I had some issues with the river crossing. There was no way I could get across the normal crossing without getting my shoes wet. But fortunately, I was to balance across some rocks just a little bit higher up.
The only thing that could be a problem was hard snow in the wrong place. But I didn’t really expect more problems…
If I were to guess between hard winter or angry hiker, I would go for the first option…
Eventually, I got on the Vallahornet – Saudehornet ridge.
There was still snow on the ridge, before it got steep. But the snow was soft and offered no problems. After a hard push up the final 300 vertical meters, I reached the top – 1h:25m after leaving the car.
The view from this top is just GREAT! Definitely worth the effort!
It was tempting to go for the roundtrip hike – via the western top, but I decided to take the same route down and get back to Karma.
There’s so much on this mountain that I’d like to explore. It will have to be in a post-Karma era, where I can take my good time.
While the snowfields were a bit strenuous when I went up the mountain, they were a delight going down…
It was good to be back! I had silently hoped that I would do this hike in 2 hours, but mainly because of the snow (going up) I lost my rhythm and had to settle for 2h:11m. Not too bad, though…
Karma was (like always) acting as if I had been away for a month and then I took her into the Huldrehornet forest, where I spent a good hour with the brush cutter…
Trip statistics: 8km, 1150 vertical meters, 2h:11m
