Friday: Enough trail maintenance! I wanted to finish the working week with a good hike and decided to hike Blæjeskardtinden (or Myrkevasstinden) from lake Kvanndalsvatnet in Norddalen (Vanylven), via the NW ridge – which I had not hiked before.

It was a very hot day and as the ridge wouldn’t offer a lot of water, I had to make sure that the dog was “soaked” before we headed out. It doesn’t help to tell her to get into the water. Dirty tricks are necessary…

The hike along Kvanndalsvatnet was OK. For the most part, we followed a vague path but it didn’t add tremendous value.

We aimed for the steepest route up to the NW ridge that wouldn’t get us any problems with slippery grass or bush.

The hike up was easy enough, and I looked forward to getting onto the ridge.

Hang in there, kiddo!

I made a mental note to come back soon and hike Storefjelltinden. I could have done it today, but I wanted to get back home before it got too late. Fortunately, I got Anne to come along, one week later.

And then we were on the ridge!

We hiked across Mannen (881m), which provided excellent views towards Dalsfjorden and the mountains beyond.

I enjoyed some good views on our way up, like Gjegnalundsbreen glacier in Nordfjord.

And now … the ridge to the top!

We reached Tinden (1110m) and had now just a short hike over to the main top.

Treats for Karma and views for daddy!

I haven’t spent a lot of time in these mountains in the past, but I think that is going to change. I like this area more and more…

It was very tempting to continue over to Blæja – the highest of these tops, but it would cost me valuable evening time.

Instead, I decided to descend the north ridge from Tinden. This is a ridge I know from my previous hike up here.

It was mid-June, but there was still ice in lake Myrkevatnet

Weird...

Despite the warm weather, Karma seemed to enjoy herself.

And then we were down from the ridge. Only a short hike back to the car now…
