Thursday: The chain of gorgeous days suddenly got broken and we woke up to fog. It was supposed to rain later in the day, so we decided to do our hike early today.
I wasn’t up for any higher mountains, so I proposed a roundtrip hike across the tops on the south side of Gåsheia. Anne and Karma hadn’t been to these tops before.
It’s a very nice and popular roundtrip, along a good trail.
First, we went up to Salbuhatten.
We didn’t have to explain the fence crossing concept to Karma. She’s done this before…
As suspected, Salbuhatten offered fog…
Then we moved over to Kjølsfjellet – the highest top of the four we hiked across.
Karma wanted to do the next crossing on her own. It was safe. She doesn’t care about sheep. I think it was a good move to put her in the middle of sheep flocks when she was a puppy. When we’re passing sheep now, she looks the other way. Either she just don’t care or she tries to be invisible…
We could have had a massive view towards Velfjorden and the mountains beyond, but the fog was the dominating “view” today.
And eventually, Anne and Karma could celebrate a new top with prominence >= 100m.
From Kjølsfjellet, we continued to Guromannen.
It wasn’t quite clear where the mailbox was. First, we headed south – until the route drops into Skomo.
Then we continued north and found the mailbox.
But was this the high point? There were two humps close by which both seemed to have the same height, but wasn’t it even higher further to the northeast?
I had to go and check.
Sure enough, Guromannen Nord was 1-2m higher than Guromannen Sør. This is not according to my GPS waypoints, but according to hoydedata.no. But it matched my GPS waypoints (318m on south top, 319m on north top).
From Guromannen, we followed a path that descended rather steeply into the valley between Hjortheia and Guromannen.
From the valley, the climb up to Hjortheia was equally steep.
I had previously been to the other 3 tops (in 2007) but I hadn’t been to Hjortheia before.
At this point, we didn’t know that we would be standing on top on Ramntinden – in the same fog, and also with rain – the following day…
Then we followed the trail back to the Gåsheia trailhead.
A few hours later, it started raining. In the evening, we took my mom to the Svang restaurant in Brønnøysund. We had a 4-meal course. The fish course was possibly the best fish course I’ve ever had. I just wanted more and more, which is always a good sign…
