Ramntinden (323m), July 19 2024
Friday: Sometimes I wish I just worked in a grocery store and that I could go on vacation without having to think about work at all. Then again, most of the time, I don’t…
But this was the 5th day in a row that I had to log in and fix something broken. No, it wasn’t Crowdstrike – just the regular things that can go wrong when people make software changes in July…
Afterwards, I was free to take a hike in the rain – just passing by for the time being. I decided to pay Ramntinden a revisit and Anne wanted to join in.
I do like this mountain a lot. The terrain is wild!
Anne has been to this mountain before (in 2012), but didn’t remember anything from the hike. As such, this was a brand new mountain for her. Karma has been up here a couple of times before.
There was a whole lot of water coming down the steepest part of the route. We spent a little while leading most of the water away.
Too bad it was foggy. The views are extra dramatic thanks to the steep drop below.
And then we were up!
On top, I made a mental note about taking Anne back up here on a sunny day. Little did I know that *I* would be back the day after – in the sunshine. But after a long day in Sømna, Anne decided to sit that one out…
In the evening, mom, Anne and I went to Hommelstø to see “Velfjordrevyen” 2024. I was mighty proud of my 5 second cousins on stage – and other family (on stage too). It was a great show!

Lysdalstinden (229m), July 20 2024
Saturday: Of course, my only planned working day during my summer vacation was a gorgeous one. I would have preferred rain…
In the morning, I had to do some system maintenance and then I had some hours free until I had to do some more work in the afternoon.
I had recently “discovered” Lysdalstinden – which isn’t a real mountain top, but a satellite peak on the Mardalsfjellet massif. Still, I wanted to go there. The lower tops on Sømna can be quite a challenge.
Anne decided to come along, and we parked by the quarry east of Lysdalstinden.
We followed a gravel road up to the water tanks, turned right and found a path that runs up Mardalsfjellet.
We entered WET terrain…
We followed this path up to the first meadow. Here, we left the path and headed off-trail in the direction of Lysdalstinden.
The terrain was overall easy and soon we reached the top.
I do like the Sømna mountains…
If I didn’t have to worry about work or Anne’s desire to go swimming, I would have followed the ridge (off-trail) up to Mardalsfjellet. But that would have to wait until some other day.
We stopped by lake 168m so Karma could satisfy her thirst…
We then returned the way we came…
Trip statistics: 4km, 260 vertical meters, 1h:30m

Sundshopen, July 20 2024
Saturday: After hiking Lysdalstinden, we drove to Sundshopen to check out the … molo or installation. It’s hard to tell what it is.
If only the bottom in Sundshopen hadn’t been so muddy, it would have been really nice to swim here.
Superb temperature…
Karma got to cool off, too.
Afterwards, we had to return to Brønnøysund for my afternoon work session.
Ramntinden (323m), July 20 2024
Saturday: Once the chores at work had been completed, I took Karma for a hike to “Ramntinden Nord” – which is the ridge stretching north of Ramntinden (which we visited yesterday) – towards Trollskardet col.
I have this lifelong dream of hiking from Ramntinden to Mosaksla. There are two steep cols along the way – Trollskaret and Kjerringskardet. I knew about Kjerringskardet but I knew nothing about Trollskaret. Today, I hoped to become more familiar with it.
Karma had this “we were here yesterday!” look, but I managed to push her along.
When we got to the point when the trail forks and we went up the north ridge, she got interested. Like, “OK, we didn’t hike here yesterday, so it’s alright”.
The ridge was easy to follow upwards.
The map says Skårfjellet, but according to the locals, Skårfjellet is the mountain between Trollskaret and Kjerringskardet. The locals calls everything from Ramntinden and up to point 289m (where we were heading) “Ramntinden”.
I got a close look at Trollskaret. It required climbing to pass. No-go zone! Very disappointing.
OK, at least we reached the northern top on Ramntinden. The views were pretty good!
We returned the way we came, and I decided to hike up to Ramntinden (the south – and main top) for the 2nd day in a row. At least, today, we would get some proper views.
We also had a good view towards Tilremshatten – which we hiked with mom a couple of days ago…
Ramntinden is coolest when seen from the sea, but it’s kinda cool from this angle too…
Fortunately, there were ponds where Karma could cool down.
It was good to be back on Ramntinden!
After the hike, we drove down to Eide/Eida (?) and talked to the landowner. He told me that if I wanted to get to Mosaksla, I should follow a distinct ledge (easy to spot) where the sea level used to be at – all the way to Kjerringskardet. From Kjerringskardet, it takes a bit of easy scrambling to continue towards Mosaksla.
I’ve given up on the hike across the ridge. Both Trollskaret and Kjerringskardet offer some real challenges.

It must be an amazing experience
