Saudehornet’s lower neighbor

Monday: Suddenly, the weather turned absolutely fantastic. I felt a strong urge to head up into the higher mountains. However, there wasn’t enough daylight left after work to reach the highest mountains, so I had to settle for something in between. Vardehornet (1010 m) in Ørsta would surely be a good choice. I set off from the waterworks in Vikegeila.
The afternoon sun was just absolutely wonderful…
I followed the gravel road all the way up to Vikeskåla. From there, I followed a path that eventually turns towards Saudehornet, at which point I went off-trail.
Saudehornet is an incredible motif. I just love that mountain…
I probably hadn’t fully recovered from the Salmonella infection. The ascent to the col between Vardehornet and Saudehornet was incredibly hard. The comfort was that my motivation was at 100%. It’s far more concerning if the desire to go on a hike isn’t there…
Finally, I reached the col and discovered that Vardehornet had some snow on its north side.
And then I was up…
It was absolutely wonderful to be up here. All the effort was worth it…
It felt safe to assume that the skiing season hadn’t begun yet…
A light dusting of snow isn’t uncommon in October…
The strong wind made my stay on top very cold. But it was worth enduring it for a few minutes…
My route down went past Nivane, though I didn’t go up to the very high point…
I was happy and if winter wasn’t just around the corner, maybe there would be chance to hike Saudehornet one more time before the hiking window is closing.
Then it was off down the mountainside…
