Sundary: The nice weather continued, and with yesterday’s wonderful bicycle trip still fresh in mind, we decided to bike from my house and to Fosnavåg – with a small detour to Hornseten.

We followed pedestrian and cycle paths as far as Stokksund. From there, we had to join the regular traffic. On the way up to the Herøy Bridge, we kept some distance from each other to make it easier for cars to overtake.

I hadn’t been on my bike since September 13th, but I didn’t really feel the effects of yesterday’s 33 km ride.

So far, so good!

After crossing the Herøy Bridge, we were able to bike more safely on dedicated paths once again.

Eventually, we went up to Bergslia to take the hike up to Hornseten.

I noticed a tree that was impossible to pass without doing a bit of climbing. I believe it is extremely important never to stop climbing and think, “I’m too grown-up for this“.

Big fun!

Anne had a bad knee following falling off her bike on an icy patch, so she took it easy on the way up the trail.

We had plenty of time, and the weather was absolutely gorgeous.

And then, we reached the top of Hornseten.

I figured that since the highest point on our route would be 190 meters, we wouldn’t be covering much elevation gain today. Talk about being wrong!

After Hornseten, the plan was to bike down to Fosnavåg. We could have included Nerlandsøya, but the trip was already going to be long enough as it was…

Back at the bikes, Anne decided that a bit of core training was in order…

Then, we biked along the excellent gravel road over Heida, heading towards Fosnavåg.

Once down in Fosnavåg, we decided to check out the swing bridge – something we hadn’t tried before.

However, since the local restaurant was open, we decided – once again – to treat ourselves to some carrot cake with ice cream, accompanied by coffee.

And then, we headed over to the swing bridge.

Very cool...

Just as we arrived, the bridge was moving back into place. We weren’t entirely sure about the “protocol” here, so we waited a bit. In not too long, a boat from the Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue (Redningsselskapet) appeared. We figured they must have had a “remote control“.

Since we couldn’t see any other boats in the bay, we operated the bridge ourselves and crossed the channel.

Anne had assumed there was only one route to Fosnavåg, so she was pleasantly surprised to discover that we could take a different way back via Mjølstadnesvegen and Frøystadvågvegen.

We made another stop on the Herøy Bridge on the return trip.

Once back on Gurskøya, we biked to Sandvika and up to Sandvikskaret. I thought I needed the extra elevation gain, but as it turned out, I didn’t.

The numbers vary slightly depending on which GPS analysis tool I use, but I settled on a total elevation gain of 880 meters. Not bad at all, considering the highest point was only 190 meters!

Trip statistics: 41,1km on bike, 880 vertical meters, 3h:51m
