Our "Aungrenda rundt" route
Our “Aungrenda rundt” route

Sunday:Aungrenda rundt” is an annual hike, from Sausvatn to Aslakaunet and return the same way or across Øverås. It is a part of “Velfjorddagan”. There were not so many people this year. The extreme heat was probably a major reason.

We did this hike with mom 22.07.23 and two years later, it was time for our 2nd visit to Aslakaunet. Mom has done this hike at least half a dozen times.

It was another hot day, and I really wasn’t sure if bringing Karma along was a good idea. It would clearly be against most recommendations, but few other dogs are as used to hiking as Karma. To make sure she got a good start, she got to cool off in Sausvatnet.

After registration at Folkets Hus, we headed out, together with Gunn.

The first leg is through Austdalen. This is a somewhat boring route, but it was right next to the place I spent my childhood years.

The horseflies were a huge problem today. After a while, we had bouquets of branches, for waving the buggers off.

Eventually, we got to the Forhaugen – Vassbotnkammen ridge, where we would be heading into more interesting terrain.

My only focus right now, was to find more water for Karma. Not to drink, because I was carrying 1,5L for her, but to swim in.

The rivers were almost dry, but Storsjåtjønna had enough water for her to get wet.

Then we sat course for Aslakaunet.

At Aslakaunet, we met old neighbours and had a nice time. The horse flies weren’t so bad there. They served buns, coffee and cold drinks. Very nice!

Gunn and mom found shade.

After a while, we moved on through the lush forest.

This wasn’t exactly “deep country”, but it sure gave me that feeling.

The path was vague, but visible enough…

I think we were the only ones returning via Øverås today. It was recommended not to go this way, because of cattle at Øverås. We figured it would not be a problem, for us or the cattle.

Karma seemed to be doing OK in the heat and found the forest very interesting.

After a while, we arrived at Solbakken/Lassienget.

At Stivadet, Karma could cool down one more time.

Like in 2023, Karma and I took the river route. I didn’t fancy getting the dog across that bridge. It was very easy to get across the river today…

Then we sat course for the Dyrkroken pass – between Langåsan and Øveråshøgda. It felt like a really long climb, but it was only ~80 vertical meters.

We didn’t see any cattle at Øverås, and we didn’t see the old path to Sausvatn either. Looking for the path was a bit aggravating, but we found it in the end.

A small nightmare in high grass

As we had Sausvatn in view, I only focused on three things: 1) getting Karma into Sausvatnet, 2) getting myself into Sausvatnet and 3) the sour crème porridge awaiting at Folkets hus.

It was nice to get down to Sausvatnet and walk along the shore. I hadn’t done that in maybe 45 years. Mom and Gunn went directly to Folkets hus.

I bet that was nice!

Anne didn’t bother taking her shoes off. I followed her example.

We had a nice swim and got pestered by horse flies. Eventually, we returned to Folkets hus.

After receiving our diplomas, we could dive into the stew and porridge. Just as tasty as the last time.

This was our last full day in the Brønnøy region. The coming week would be spent at Finnes, Gildeskål.
