Continued from summer vacation, day 6…
Saturday: We normally just stay in Brønnøysund for a few days, when spending the holiday in the north. But we decided that we wanted to stay the entire week. As such, I was very keen on getting a new top and the choice fell on Nubben in Bindal.
We had passed this top on our way to Selfjordsalen, last summer. It looked like a “hit and run” top – maybe something for a rainy day.
Today was as far from “rainy” as it can get. We had to carefully think about Karma and the heat. In the end, with all the access to water along the route, we assumed she would be OK. Besides, the forest part before the water would provide shade.
The road to Moltmyra was just as bad as it was last year. I’ve driven this road 3 times now, and I’m afraid there will be more…
Worse than last year, were the horse flies. It was a struggle to stay sane while preparing for the hike. They were everywhere and they sure know how to throw a good bite. But eventually, we were on our way.
Karma didn’t want to drink in the creek at the trailhead, so she would have to wait another 0,6km to satisfy her thirst.
We could see the northern part of Nubben, up to our left.
When we got to the first lake, we had to descend a little for Karma to cool off. It didn’t take a lot of discussion to get her down there.
We had to bring something to throw into the water, otherwise she wouldn’t have jumped in. The plastic bone did nicely.
Then we continued up the ridge to the Marattaskardet pass.
The ridge was easy to hike, and Karma didn’t have to spend a lot of energy here.
We were curious about the pass. At first glance, it looked very cumbersome to get across. But, we could see a vague path and got down without any problems.
There was more water available in the pass. Karma didn’t have to be thirsty on this hike!
For ascent up to Nubben, we just picked the easiest route. We didn’t see any path.
Looking back at Marattaskardet, it seemed that our route was the only route that could be described as easy.
Now, we had the top ahead of us – 0,7km further SW. It looked as if we could pick any route we wanted.
We also noted where it was possible to get the best swim, upon our return.
We passed several small lakes before reaching the top, and we made sure Karma got a swim in every one of them…
We liked this rocky landscape. Except for cliffs here and there, we could pretty much go anywhere we pleased.
We took a small detour so we could get a good view towards the Tosen fjord.
And then we went up to the top. Another new pf100 top in the bag!
After taking in the views, it was time for a swim!
I hope, for her sake, it was more “Oh yeah!” than “Oh no!”
Eventually, it was to head back down. The plan for arriving at the car was just to get in without wasting a single second. The horse flies were awaiting.
On our way back to Brønnøysund, we wondered if there would be a change in the weather. There wasn’t. It was just the sky “acting up”…
