Tuesday: I was working out of Ålesund today and felt for hiking Nihusen after work. I called my good friend Torill and asked if she wanted to join in. She wanted to but was not able to make it until 4:15pm.

I wanted to get out of Ålesund before the rush traffic started just after 3pm. Which meant I had time to kill before the hike. I decided to do the round-trip hike across Skodjebruene bridges.

About time we got here!
About time we got here!

One of the islands is Kasholmen, with a high point of whopping 46m. I decided that I might as well visit the high point.

But that was a significant scramble (with a dog) from the north side, and I decided to give up on it.

Nah...
Nah…

We don't need this top, do we?

Then we went through the tunnel and I started thinking about meeting up with Torill…

But after getting through the tunnel, I noticed a gravel road leading up to a cabin. And the high point was just behind the cabin.

On top of Kasholmen! Big success!

This was a really nice roundtrip hike!

Then I drove to Stette and met Torill and Barco.

Barco – not a puppy anymore – still acted like one and Karma had to set him straight. Afterwards, we had a “civil” hike up the west ridge.

It was nice to be back on Nihusen and it was VERY nice to see my very good friend Torill again!

We talked about returning the way we came but ended up with an off-trail hike down Straumsdalen.

Torill had told me that this was not a forest people typically hiked in, and I quickly understood why.

Slightly cumbersome terrain

Still, it wasn’t absolutely horrible, and we had a good time finding our way down the forest.

Yup - that way looks good!

When we finally reached the road, we had just 1,1km back to the trailhead. A very fun hike!

Wednesday: The day before, members of the Turstiprosjektet Myrvåg/Tjørvåg group had brought steps for wooden walkways up to the path near Dyrkyrkja.

This afternoon, I went up with Erling, Hans and Jørn Hugo to deploy the walkways.

I didn’t want to stand in the way for the adults at work and spent my time carrying the steps to wherever they were needed.

Good progress!

The end result was very good! Our already quite good trail system just got a little bit better!

Thursday: Trail maintenance day, but first – a hike up to Huldrehornet.

From Huldrehornet, we headed towards Lidafjellet and Dyrkyrkja where the rake came into good use. It was nice to walk on the walkways we deployed the day before.

It feels super-weird to bring a rake to the forest, but as if I care…
