Mosaksla (527m), Jun 2 2026
Tuesday: Still in Brønnøysund, and after work, I spent nearly 2 hours in mom’s backyard with my chainsaw and the new Fiskars axe I purchased today.
Then, like last Tuesday, I decided to hike Mosaksla. My first thought was to leave a bike at the trailhead, then drive back to Tilrem and hike up the Nonsrabben ridge. But in the end, I decided not to. It was already getting late in the afternoon, and this would be time-consuming route.
So, instead – I chose to hike the Ytterrabben route instead of the normal route on the north side.
I had done this route before. I didn’t remember when (it was in 2007) and I didn’t remember if getting up was hard or not. It looked a bit tricky where the ridge meets the cliff.
It all sorted itself out nicely. Maybe it was a tad exposed in one place, but nothing too scary. This was the hard part. Anything difficult after this would be most voluntary…

It was cool to be hiking so close to the edge. I decided to stick to the edge as much as possible, all the way up.
I was in scrambling mood, and the terrain offered everything from no scrambling at all, easy and harder scrambling.
It was a really hot day. I forgot to check the temperature, but I guess it was around 20 °C.
I did what I said I would – I stayed as far right as I could – where the terrain let me.
I had a good view down to Gjerddalstind. It’s high time I visited this cool top again. I remember really good scrambling and exposure.
I was now approaching the final hillside, and the terrain was now a walk in the park. And I still kept to the right.
Although it was a hot day, I enjoyed myself a lot.
A dream would be to do a traverse from Ramntinden to Mosaksla. That means negotiating two gaps which involves climbing. Maybe one day…
And – I need to revisit Trollvasstinden on Vega. I hadn’t been up there since late in the 90’s. I don’t even have digital pictures from the hike. It’s all in the photo album.
I stopped for a selfie before going up to the cairn for some additional pics.
I followed the normal route down. Great hike!

Tilremshatten (318m), Jun 5 2026
Friday: It was raining in the afternoon, and I didn’t feel any inspiration for going hiking. But I had to do something and decided to hike Tilremshatten from the shooting range (“Skytebanen”). I had done this route years ago but didn’t remember anything and had no GPS tracks either.
I drove to Tilrem and left my bike, then I drove to the shooting range. Parking space was limited, to put it mildly.
From the shooting range, I followed a tractor road. It wasn’t raining a lot, but for the first time during my Brønnøysund stay, I had to put on a Gore-Tex jacket.
Eventually, the forest path began, and I followed a visible path up to Vannverksdammen and continued up to where I met the path from Tilrem.
When I reached the 314m point (where everyone else turns around), I decided that I didn’t want to visit the 318m point today. There is no path and the grass was wet. I had no need to get more wet than I already was.
Fortunately, it was raining less now, and I could put my Gore-Tex jacket back in my rucksack.
I like the Tilrem route, and especially the “Geitkløvstien” path. It’s fun to hike on the very ridge crest, but due to slippery rock, I stuck to the path today.
When I got to the bike, it was raining again. The jacket came on one more time, but the car was only 1,4km away.
This was the last hike in Brønnøysund for this time. Tomorrow, I’d be heading back home. Mom has been helped with various heavy stuff and is happy. I can leave with a good conscience…
