Continued from Træna, part 3, June 26 2014…
After 4 wonderful days on Træna, it was time to move on. Anne and I were heading for Lovund and Lovundfjellet. Bjørn Eirik had already been up there, while waiting for Anne and me to arrive and spent the day traveling to Sleneset to pick up his car. We would meet up with him later in the day, on Onøy.
Goodbye, Træna. Not sure if I’ll ever be back but I will miss you for always!
When goodbyes had been said and done, we could focus on our next mission – Lovundfjellet…
We arrived on Lovund 7am and had 4,5 hours for getting up and down Lovundfjellet, before we had to get on the ferry to Onøy. That should be plenty, and we left our huge backpacks in the waiting room.
The route up the mountain shouldn’t be hard to find, but first we had to find it. We got an advice on where to go but the advice was bad (or we misunderstood) and we wasted precious time. But eventually, we were on the path taking us to Novvika.
I loved being here. To me personally, Lovund are 3 things: 1) it’s one of the characteristic mountains on the Helgeland coastline that I love to look at, 2) puffins come to this island and 3) there’s (very) often a “fog hat” on top of the mountain. This happens when warm and humid air rises up the mountainside, cools, and the condensation forms clouds.
At Novvika, we didn’t have to look long and hard for the mountain path. There was a signpost (“Topp”) that indicated that we were on the right track.
10 years later, I really don’t remember details from the climb. I see that there were ropes on the pictures but I can’t remember that we had to use them. In any case, we had a dog and then there’s a limit to hard it can be…
After several hundred vertical meters, we had put the hardest ascent behind us, and could look forward to the “victory parade” to the summit.
Karma saw the cairn, and didn’t have time to wait for the owners. Time for treats!
8:40am, another top was “in the bag“.
We were in very good shape with respect to the schedule and spent quality time on top.
We would probably have a view towards Træna every day for the coming week, but this would be the closest that we would be to Træna.
Time to chill…
We had a good view towards Hestmannen on Hestmona island, which we would visit two days later.
And Rødøyløva – which we would visit three days later…
Eventually, it was time to get off the mountain…
We saw charming places…
… and fantastic campsites!
The descent went well. No accidents…
Back in the Novvika bay, Anne had to go for a swim…
After securing groceries, there was nothing else to do than to wait for the boat.
The ferry left 11:45am and traveling this way was easy.
I probably won’t be back on Lovund, so I made sure I got enough pictures of the mountain…
Eventually, we got to Sleneset where Bjørn Eirik was waiting to get on the ferry.
Once he was onboard, further planning could commence…
Our next stop was Onøy and Lurøy where more hikes were awaiting…
