Ytrehornsnakken (554m), Jul 12 2021

View from Ytrehornsnakken

On my commutes between Sogndal and Sunnmøre, I seem to visit this viewpoint (not top) more often. It’s a really nice path up the forest. And it’s straight up – as I normally like it. I can be back at the car within the hour if I choose to really push it.

Ulsteinhetta

The last time I visited Ulsteinhetta (located between Ulsteinvik and Flø), I noticed that there was a path going in the direction of Ivagarden. Today, I sat out to find it. After talking to a local, I found the path.

The path is a bit hard to find, but once on it – it’s easy to follow. It runs steeply up the forest and connects with another path on the plateau.

It’s green up here!

We went up to Ulsteinhetta, and then back down to where I came up from the forest. But this time, I continued in the other direction – towards Skålanausen – which I hadn’t been to before.

The shore between Ulsteinvik and Flø

From Skålanausen, we descended into Ulsteindalen valley and returned to the car via the Kvennavegen path.

Blåtind (697m), Jul 15 2021

On Blåtind – the highest top on Hareidlandet

Back in my local region now. A nice hike across Blåtind, along the normal path from Ringstaddalen to lake Hundelaupsvatnet. From there on – mostly off-trail to the top.

Descent via Klungsdalen down to Haddal – and the boring hike along the road back to the car…

Jan on top of the Loen Via Ferrata D-route

Finally, we were able to give Jan his overdue 60th birthday present – a guided tour (with me as guide) up the Via Ferrata in Loen.

This trip is featured on a separate post.

Middagsfjellet/ Øyenibba (848m), Jul 17 2021

Nice hiking above Nordfjord

After the trip up the Via Ferrata the day before, we went to Sande Camping by lake Lovatnet and spent the night there. The next morning, we were going our separate ways. Anne was returning to Sogndal. I was going to Sunnmøre while Anne-May and Jan were continuing their summer vacation in their RV. But first, a morning swim!

That looks cold!

For the second time this week, I was driving back home to Sunnmøre. And again I stopped in Hornindal to walk the dog. But not on Ytrehornsnakken this time. Instead, I chose to visit Øyenibba – but along new routes.

I previously hiked this mountain back in ’13 – with my mom. Then, we hiked from the Grodåssætra side. Today, we would be ascending via Svorasætra and descending via Vikasætra. I looked forward to this one!

After a 1,8km not-so-entertaining hike along the Postvegen road, we could finally begin the climb up the west ridge. The path was easy to follow to the top.

Passing Svorasætra

A slightly “annoying” thing is that the “Øyefjellet 848m” signpost is on the wrong top! The high point is 325m further to the southeast. In practice, the signpost represents the 846.6m point, while the high point is 848.3m

This is NOT the high point!

For descent, we took the path down to Grodåssætra and then the road towards Vikasætra. The only problem was that road didn’t seem to connect to any paths that would take me down to the car. But I was in luck! I met a hiker who told me that – sure enough – there is a path just before the road end.

And there was indeed a path! This path took us down to Indre Svor and now we just had 0,9km along the main road back to the car. A fun hike!

@ Home, Jul 18 2021

I do not remember why I wasn’t hiking today. Maybe the weather was crap. Maybe I had to work, maybe I was tired. In any case, the dog got a hair-cut!

A job well done!
