Monday: Our friends Eva & Bjørn were still visiting us. I had a normal working day while the others were in Sogndal, swimming in the fjord and hunting down poles (“Stolpejakten”).
After work, I needed to get some exercise and decided to hike Togga up in Sogndalsdalen.
Again, the knee was painful and so I decided to occupy my mind with something else. Like, trying to do the almost 800 vertical meters within the hour. Given that I did this route in 43m (with some jogging) back in 2018, that should be doable.
This was my 7th hike up this mountain that is foremost known as a popular skiing mountain. I still haven’t been here on skis. It’s a little bit too steep for me. Not that I am afraid, but when it gets too steep, I would only be focusing on controlling the speed, so I don’t fall and rip my knees apart.
Togga offers a classic “false top”. When you think you’re almost up…
…you’re not.
I’ve also hiked the ridge to Nystøylfjellet.
I didn’t attempt Skjerdingane via that ridge. That looked too steep. Instead, I hiked Skjerdingane via Gunvordalen.
I was curious when I reached the top. What did the stopwatch say? 51 minutes. I could live with that. After all, I’ve turned 60. I can’t expect to compete with my times from 5-10 years ago.
Now, time for the views!
An inner voice said, “take the knee pain seriously and don’t go on stupid hikes like this”. But once the knee got warm, I didn’t feel any pain. So, I just forgot about the problem. For a while. The problem presented itself in full a week later…
Trip statistics: 5,7km, 795 vertical meters, 1h:35m
