Our route

Sunday: This morning, Anne had a lot of energy and proposed that we ought to go on a ski-trip. We had been talking about Bleia (Hemsedalsfjellet) for quite some time, and so we decided to go there. There was still enough snow in the mountains and so we expected that we would be able to ski directly from the car.

But first, Anne had to go for the regular Sunday swim in the Sognefjord…

Then we drove up to Hemsedalsfjellet and the trailhead by lake Eldrevatnet.

The only question was – would the snow be too soft for Karma? If yes, it would be a showstopper…

But so far, things were looking good

But then the snow got really soft and if it hadn’t been for the mountain road along Eldrehaugelvi river, we might have turned around. But, as we could follow the road to below point 1274m, Karma might just stand a chance…

It was a long transport leg to the foot of Bleia. The snow ranged from carrying Karma’s weight to make her drown in it. But it carried her more than the opposite and so we moved on.

I really, really looked forward to getting to the top of this mountain!

The river crossing went just fine.

But a few days later, the river crossing would have been a problem

Eventually, we started the climb up the mountain.

Finally - climbing

Our first goal was to get to lake 1450m and decide if we should continue straight up (steep) or traverse to the northwest and reach the top in less steep terrain.

We chose the traverse.

There was plenty of snow on the mountain and Karma had no problems walking.

Finally – the top came into view!

Yeah!
Yeah!

And then we were up!

It was just so nice to reach this top that we had been talking about for so long!

Then it was time to get back down. We decided to follow our tracks, going down. Easier for Karma.

Karma was on fire! Impressive for a dog turning 12 this year!

Holy cow, Karma!

The snow on the upper mountain was absolutely delightful. We both were able to ski Telemark in a way that looked like we’d done it before…

Back in the valley, the snow was softer than it was when we went up. Karma struggled every now and then, but it went overall OK.

It was a glorious day on Hemsedalsfjellet!

On our way down from Hemsedalsfjellet, we thought we were driving towards a forest fire!

What the heck?
What the heck?

But it turned out to be a car – in serious problems. It was a bit odd that nothing came out of the front, like if the car was overheated. So I was wondering what kind of stuff this guy used for fuel

He didn’t make it up the hill…
