Sunday: After the superb Kvigtinden hike, we sat course for Brønnøysund.
I was in the mood for a new mountain, but there were no easy mountains left, along RV76 – except Fatfjellet (or is it Flatfjellet?)
The route looked just horrible on the map, which is why I hadn’t already been there. But still I decided to go through with it.
I decided to head out from the bridge by Jordbruelva river. There was (supposed to be) a tractor road that would get me close to the forest top.
Anne drove up to Måsvasstjønnan – on the plateau before the Tosen tunnel, had a bath and relaxed.
My hike – OMG… The tractor road was overgrown. I had to use the map to verify that I was on it!
But, if it hadn’t been for the tractor road, I would never have done this hike. It was the easiest part of the hike – by far!
When I left the tractor road, I had a really cumbersome hike/scramble up the forest.
If I look for the positive aspects, the forest was so dense that the horseflies didn’t have room for their attacks.
But every now and then, there was an opening…
I had time and opportunity to think through my current situation. Is this really worth it?
When I concluded that it actually was, things were easier.
Eventually, I had the top ahead of me.
Now it was just a matter of finding a good route up to the high point.
That’s just a figure of speech. There is nothing like a “good route” up here.
When checking the map before the hike, I was super-worried that the high point was on the north side of the forest, almost 1km from the south top.
With normal map zoom, the south top is 565m and the north top is 560m. But with more zoom, the south top is 560,7m and the north top is 558,7m.
I was happy when I could send a text to Anne – “on my way down”.
The descent was just as painful as the ascent, but eventually I made it back to the trailhead.
I couldn’t wait to submerse myself in water. We drove up to lake Måsvasstjønnan where I just threw myself in. Aahhhh!
We were super-hungry. Anne said she could eat a horse. I said I could eat whatever the horse dropped behind. Just figure of speech, of course. We don’t really DO these things…
Then it was super-convenient that we had some good friends not too far away, and waffle experts too. I called and said that we were passing by and Jorun immediately fired up the waffle iron.
OMG. The best waffles ever!
It was really good to see friends (and family) again, and it was also nice to be back in Velfjord – my childhood paradise.
After leaving our friends (Jorun and Arnfinn) we drove to Vassbotn where we had yet another nice swim – this time in Sausvatnet and this time with a sandy bottom.
In the afternoon, we reached Brønnøysund and checked into my mom’s place – our basecamp for the following week.
Trip statistics: 4,3km, 320 vertical meters, 1h:17m
