Our route across Galden
Our route across Galden

Monday: Our Easter vacation in eastern Norway was coming to an end. We parted without friends in Skjeskroken, Søndre Land and sat course for Filefjell and subsequently Sogndal.

It was a beautiful day and of course we were going on a ski-trip. But where?

Vardhovdtinden (1456m) was long on our radar, but for various reasons, we decided to come back for that top another day.

We settled for Galden above lake Tyinvatnet. It would be a fairly short – and surely – nice ski-trip! After parking at Tyinstølen, we were ready for Galden.

The snow and weather were perfect!

We didn’t pick the shortest route to Galden. My hope was that a roundtrip option would present itself.

Karma was just darn happy about being out of the car.

My “coverage” around lake Tyinvatnet is growing rapidly. I wanted to include Tyinstølnøse (1385m) on this trip, but Anne wanted to focus on Galden, not sure how much strengths she could apply today.

It was okay. With a prominence of 95m, Tyinstølnøse was definitely of interest, but not important – as my primary interest is >= 100m.

So, we sat a direct course for Galden.

We were reminded about the general avalanche danger, although I didn’t quite see a major risk for us today…

The snow didn’t quite carry Karma’s weight and she had a bit of a struggle ahead of her. But that didn’t seem to stop her…

After a while, I felt really bad for her, but she looked very motivated!

We should most certainly spend more time in the Jotunheimen region…

On top, we met another couple and we had chat with them before we had to focus on the views…

The other couple said we ought to descend to the east, as long as we stayed away from the steepest hills. That was the round-trip option I had been hoping for…

In short, it was a good suggestion!

We had a really fun descent!

There was a little resistance from the snow – I call it al dente -, but as long as we pushed a little, skiing was smooth!

What a great finish to the Easter skiing! After reaching 100km at the rented cabin above Eggedal, I sat a new goal – 150km. The total was now 148km and Easter was over. But I wasn’t home on Sunnmøre yet. One day left…

Being by lake Tyin, it was only natural to drive to Sogndal via Øvre Årdal

On our way to Sogndal, we got a dinner invite from good friends in Solvorn. There wasn’t time to stop via Anne’s house and so we drove directly to Solvorn.

After dinner, we had S’mores as dessert outdoors. I had never heard of the concept before, and I don’t think it will become a regular dessert in our household.

It’s always nice to talk to others, and learn their perspective of things…
